Prevalence of non-aureus staphylococci species causing intramammary infections in Canadian dairy herds
Larissa Anuska Zeni Condas,Jeroen De Buck,Diego B. Nobrega,Domonique A. Carson,Sohail Naushad,Sarne De Vliegher,Ruth N. Zadoks,John R. Middleton,Simon Dufour,John P. Kastelic,Herman W. Barkema +10 more
TL;DR: Overall prevalence of NAS intramammary infection was 35% at calving, decreased over the next 10 d, and then gradually increased until the end of lactation; therefore, accurate identification (species level) is essential for studying NAS epidemiology.

Distribution of non-aureus staphylococci species in udder quarters with low and high somatic cell count, and clinical mastitis.
Larissa Anuska Zeni Condas,Jeroen De Buck,Diego B. Nobrega,Domonique A. Carson,Jean-Philippe Roy,Greg Keefe,T J DeVries,John R. Middleton,Simon Dufour,Herman W. Barkema +9 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to determine the SCC of quarters infected by individual NAS species compared with NAS as a group, culture-negative, and major pathogen-infected quarters and the distribution of NAS species isolated from quarters with low SCC and high SCC, and clinical mastitis.

Comprehensive Phylogenetic Analysis of Bovine Non-aureus Staphylococci Species Based on Whole-Genome Sequencing
Sohail Naushad,Herman W. Barkema,Christopher Luby,Larissa Anuska Zeni Condas,Diego B. Nobrega,Domonique A. Carson,Jeroen De Buck +6 more
TL;DR: A robust phylogeny of bovine NAS species is established, unaffected by method or model of evolutionary reconstructions, and it is now possible to determine associations between phylogeny and many biological traits, such as virulence, antimicrobial resistance, environmental niche, geographical distribution, and host specificity.
Staphylococcus debuckii sp. nov., a coagulase-negative species from bovine milk.
Sohail Naushad,Uliana Kanevets,Diego B. Nobrega,Domonique A. Carson,Simon Dufour,Jean-Philippe Roy,P. Jeffrey Lewis,Herman W. Barkema +7 more
TL;DR: Phylogenetic analysis and a newly developed PCR assay enabled differentiation of Staphylococcus debuckii SDB 2975T and three other SDB strains from its closest stAPHylococcal species and demonstrated that Staphyococcusdebuckii represents a novel species within the genus Staphyllococcus.

Bacteriocins of Non-aureus Staphylococci Isolated from Bovine Milk.
TL;DR: In this article, the inhibitory capability of 441 bovine NAS isolates (comprising 26 species) was evaluated against a human methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) isolate using a cross-streaking method.
