Apoptosis and oxidants in the heart.
Dinender Kumar,Bodh I. Jugdutt +1 more
TL;DR: Cardiomyocyte (CM) apoptosis has been reported in a variety of cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction, ischemia/reperfusion, end-stage heart failure, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, and adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy, and the role in the development and progression of cardiac diseases merits further investigation.

AT1 and AT2 receptor expression and blockade after acute ischemia-reperfusion in isolated working rat hearts
Yi Xu,Dinender Kumar,Jason R.B. Dyck,William R. Ford,Alexander S. Clanachan,Gary D. Lopaschuk,Bodh I. Jugdutt +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, in isolated working hearts, AT( 2)R plays a significant role in ischemia-reperfusion and AT(2)R blockade induces increased AT(1)R protein and cardioprotection.

Postischemic apoptosis and functional recovery after angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockade in isolated working rat hearts.
TL;DR: The results indicate that IR is associated with LV dysfunction and CM apoptosis involving activation of p53, caspase-3, and increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio in the working rat heart.

Effect of angiotensin II type 2 receptor blockade on mitogen activated protein kinases during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion
TL;DR: The overall results suggest that p38 and JNK might play a significant role in acute IR injury and the cardioprotective effect of AT2R blockade independent of ERK.
