Predictors of switching from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to corticosteroids in patients with acute pericarditis and impact on clinical outcome.
George Lazaros,Alexios S. Antonopoulos,Charalambos Vlachopoulos,Evangelos Oikonomou,Apostolos Karavidas,Christina Chrysochoou,Emilia Lazarou,Dimitrios Vassilopoulos,Massimo Imazio,Dimitris Tousoulis +9 more
TL;DR: Treatment failure with A/NSAIDs in acute pericarditis can be anticipated by certain patient characteristics and STCT identifies patients who are at the highest risk for recurrences, a risk that is approximately threefold higher than that of A/ NSAIDs and 1.5-fold higher that of corticosteroids as first-line treatment.
Exercise capacity and haemodynamic response among 12,327 individuals with cardio-metabolic risk factors undergoing treadmill exercise.
Christina Chrysohoou,John Skoumas,Georgios Georgiopoulos,Catherine Liontou,Georgia Vogiatzi,Konstantinos Tsioufis,Stamatios Lerakis,Dimitrios Soulis,Christos Pitsavos,Dimitris Tousoulis +9 more
TL;DR: High-risk individuals showed different haemodynamic responses when undergoing exercise tolerance testing, reflecting independent pathophysiological pathways.
Early initiation of low-dose atorvastatin treatment after an acute ST-elevated myocardial infarction, decreases inflammatory process and prevents endothelial injury and activation
Elli Stefanadi,Dimitris Tousoulis,Charalambos Antoniades,Vasiliki Katsi,Erini Bosinakou,Emmanuel Vavuranakis,Georgia Triantafyllou,Kyriakoula Marinou,Costas Tsioufis,Nikolaos Papageorgiou,George Latsios,Christodoulos Stefanadis +11 more
TL;DR: Early initiation of low-dose atorvastatin treatment decreases the expression of IL-6 and sVCAM-1 and the release of vWF in patients with STEMI and modulates inflammatory response and decreases endothelial injury and activation.
Ventriculoarterial coupling as estimated by the PWV/GLS ratio correlates with disease severity in liver cirrhosis patients
Yannis Dimitroglou,Eirini Solomou,Dimitrios Terentes-Printzios,Athanasios Angelis,A. Valatsou,Markos Koukos,D Tsartsalis,D. Patsourakos,T. Alexopoulos,I. Mani,A. Alexopoulou,Charalambos Vlachopoulos,Dimitris Tousoulis,Constadina Aggeli,Kostantinos Tsioufis +14 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that the PWV/GLS ratio is reduced in cirrhotic patients with more severe disease, and this association remains significant even after controlling for age, systolic blood pressure, and stroke volume, indicating that PWV or GLS ratio may serve as an early marker of cardiovascular dysfunction in patients with liver cirrhosis.
The Role of Oxidative Stress
Sotirios Tsalamandris,Georgia Vogiatzi,Alexios S. Antonopoulos,Dimitris Tousoulis +3 more
- 01 Jan 2018
TL;DR: This chapter provides contemporary data concerning pathophysiology of oxidative stress and its relation to atherogenesis.
