Reprogramming in vivo produces teratomas and iPS cells with totipotency features
María Abad,Lluc Mosteiro,Cristina Pantoja,Marta Cañamero,Teresa Rayon,Inmaculada Ors,Osvaldo Graña,Diego Megías,Orlando Domínguez,Dolores Martinez,Miguel Manzanares,Sagrario Ortega,Manuel Serrano +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that transitory induction of the four factors Oct4, Sox2, Klf4 and c-Myc in mice results in teratomas emerging from multiple organs, implying that full reprogramming can occur in vivo.

Podoplanin binds ERM proteins to activate RhoA and promote epithelial-mesenchymal transition.
Ester Martín-Villar,Diego Megías,Susanna Castel,María M. Yurrita,Senén Vilaró,Miguel Quintanilla +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that human podoplanin directly interacts with ezrin (and moesin) in vitro and in vivo through a cluster of basic amino acids within its cytoplasmic tail, mainly through a juxtamembrane dipeptide RK.
STAT3 labels a subpopulation of reactive astrocytes required for brain metastasis.
Neibla Priego,Lucía Zhu,Cátia Monteiro,Manon Mulders,David Wasilewski,Wendy Bindeman,Laura Doglio,Liliana Martínez,Elena Martínez-Sáez,Santiago Ramón y Cajal,Diego Megías,Elena Hernández-Encinas,Carmen Blanco-Aparicio,Lola Martínez,Eduardo Zarzuela,Javier Muñoz,Coral Fustero-Torre,Elena Piñeiro-Yáñez,Aurelio Hernández-Laín,Luca Bertero,Valeria Poli,Melchor Sanchez-Martinez,Javier A. Menendez,Riccardo Soffietti,Joaquim Bosch-Barrera,Manuel Valiente +25 more
TL;DR: It is described that brain metastatic cells induce and maintain the co-option of a pro-metastatic program driven by signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in a subpopulation of reactive astrocytes surrounding metastatic lesions, and that a safe and orally bioavailable treatment that inhibits STAT3 exhibits significant antitumor effects in patients with advanced systemic disease that included brain metastasis.

MT1-MMP proinvasive activity is regulated by a novel Rab8-dependent exocytic pathway
Jose Javier Bravo-Cordero,Raquel Marrero-Diaz,Diego Megías,Laura Genís,Aranzazu García-Grande,María Ángel García,Alicia G. Arroyo,María C. Montoya +7 more
TL;DR: It is reported that polarized exocytosis of MT1‐MMP occurs during MDA‐MB‐231 adenocarcinoma cell migration into collagen type I three‐dimensional matrices, and constitutively active Rab8 mutants induce MT1-MMP exocytic traffic, collagen degradation and invasion, whereas Rab8‐ but not Rab11‐knockdown inhibited these processes.
AMPK and PFKFB3 mediate glycolysis and survival in response to mitophagy during mitotic arrest
Elena Doménech,Carolina Maestre,Lorena Esteban-Martínez,David Partida,Rosa Pascual,Gonzalo Fernández-Miranda,Esther Seco,Ramón Campos-Olivas,Manuel Pérez,Diego Megías,Katherine Allen,Miguel López,Asish K. Saha,Guillermo Velasco,Eduardo Rial,Raúl Méndez,Patricia Boya,María Salazar-Roa,Marcos Malumbres +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown here that survival during mitotic arrest is affected by the special energetic requirements of mitotic cells, which results in mitophagy-dependent loss of mitochondria, accompanied by reduced ATP levels and the activation of AMPK.
