Discovery of an Antarctic ascidian-associated uncultivated Verrucomicrobia that encodes antimelanoma palmerolide biosynthetic capacity
Alison E. Murray,Chien-Chi Lo,Hajnalka E. Daligault,Nicole E. Avalon,Robert W Read,Karen W. Davenport,Mary L Higham,Yuliya A. Kunde,Dichosa Ae,Bill J. Baker,Patrick S. G. Chain +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a metagenome-enabled investigation aimed at identifying the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) and palmerolide A-producing organism was described, and a 74kb candidate BGC encoding the multimodular enzymatic machinery (hybrid Type I-trans-AT polyketide synthase-non-ribosomal peptide synthetase and tailoring functional domains) was identified and found to harbor key features predicted as necessary for palmeride A biosynthesis.
Palmerolide PKS-NRPS gene clusters characterized from the microbiome of an Antarctic ascidian
Nicole E. Avalon,Alison E. Murray,Hajnalka E. Daligault,Chien-Chi Lo,Karen W. Davenport,Dichosa Ae,Patrick S. G. Chain,Bill J. Baker +7 more
TL;DR: A putative palmerolide BGC was identified from a S. adareanum metagenome based on a high degree of congruence with a chemical structure-based retrobiosynthetic prediction.

High-throughput phenotyping of cell-to-cell interactions in gel microdroplet pico-cultures
Juliette Ohan,Juliette Ohan,Benjamin Pelle,Pulak Nath,J-H Huang,Blake T. Hovde,Momchilo Vuyisich,Dichosa Ae,Shawn R. Starkenburg +8 more
TL;DR: A validated high-throughput phenotyping pipeline is described that elucidates cell-to-cell interactions for millions of combinations of microorganisms and successfully isolated bacteria that improved algal growth.
