Impact of resonator geometry and its coupling with ground plane on ultrathin metamaterial perfect absorbers
Li Huang,Dibakar Roy Chowdhury,Suchitra Ramani,Matthew T. Reiten,Sheng-Nian Luo,Abul Kalam Azad,Antoinette J. Taylor,Hou-Tong Chen +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of resonator geometry and its coupling with ground plane on the performance of metamaterial perfect absorbers was investigated, and it was shown that the absorber thickness can be further reduced through modifying the geometric dimensions of the resonators.

Role of Resonance Modes on Terahertz Metamaterials based Thin Film Sensors.
Maidul Islam,S. Jagan Mohan Rao,Gagan Kumar,Bishnu P. Pal,Bishnu P. Pal,Dibakar Roy Chowdhury +5 more
TL;DR: Th thin film sensing capabilities of a terahertz (THz) metamaterial, which comprises of an array of single split gap ring resonators (SRRs), are investigated and the sensing parameters of different resonance modes are elaborated and explained with appropriate physical explanations.
Ultrafast manipulation of near field coupling between bright and dark modes in terahertz metamaterial
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate ultrafast optical control of near field coupling between bright and dark mode resonances in metamaterials by placing an ion implanted silicon patch with ultrafast carrier lifetime inside dark resonator split gap to achieve active control of its fundamental resonance.

A broadband planar terahertz metamaterial with nested structure.
Dibakar Roy Chowdhury,Ranjan Singh,Matthew T. Reiten,Hou-Tong Chen,Antoinette J. Taylor,John F. O'Hara,Abul Kalam Azad +6 more
TL;DR: It is observed that while the fundamental resonance is well preserved, the dipolar mode resonance undergoes multiple splittings with the addition of each ring in the nest, which could have potential applications for extending the properties of metamaterials over a broader frequency range of operations.

Hybrid metasurface for ultra-broadband terahertz modulation
Jane E. Heyes,Withawat Withayachumnankul,Nathaniel K. Grady,Dibakar Roy Chowdhury,Abul Kalam Azad,Hou-Tong Chen +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, an ultra-broadband free-space terahertz modulator based on a semiconductor-integrated metasurface is presented. But the modulator is made of a planar array of metal cut-wires on a silicon-on-sapphire substrate, where the silicon layer functions as photoconductive switches.
