An Adult Zebrafish Model Reveals that Mucormycosis Induces Apoptosis of Infected Macrophages.
Azucena López-Muñoz,Francisco E. Nicolás,Diana García-Moreno,Ana B. Pérez-Oliva,María Isabel Navarro-Mendoza,Miguel Ángel Hernández-Oñate,Alfredo Herrera-Estrella,Santiago Torres-Martínez,Rosa M. Ruiz-Vázquez,Victoriano Garre,Victoriano Mulero +10 more
TL;DR: An adult zebrafish model of Mucor circinelloides infection was developed which allowed us to confirm the link between sporangiospore size and virulence and reveals for the first time the ability of mucormycosis to induce the apoptosis of recruited macrophages but not neutrophils.

A Vitamin B12-Based System for Conditional Expression Reveals dksA To Be an Essential Gene in Myxococcus xanthus
Diana García-Moreno,María Carmen Polanco,Gloria Navarro-Avilés,Francisco J. Murillo,Subramanian Padmanabhan,Montserrat Elías-Arnanz +5 more
TL;DR: A system for conditional expression of genes in M. xanthus based on the recent finding that vitamin B12 and CarH, a MerR-type transcriptional repressor, together downregulate a photoinducible promoter is described, which confirmed that M. Xanthus rpoN, encoding sigma(54), is an essential gene and tested ftsZ and dksA.
Zebrafish modeling reveals that SPINT1 regulates the aggressiveness of skin cutaneous melanoma and its crosstalk with tumor immune microenvironment.
Elena Gómez-Abenza,Sofia Ibanez-Molero,Diana García-Moreno,Inmaculada Fuentes,Leonard I. Zon,Leonard I. Zon,Maria Caterina Mione,María L. Cayuela,Chiara Gabellini,Chiara Gabellini,Victoriano Mulero +10 more
TL;DR: The zebrafish model reveals that Spint1a deficiency facilitates oncogenic transformation, regulates the tumor immune microenvironment crosstalk, accelerates the onset of SKCM and promotes metastatic invasion.
Recruitment of a novel zinc‐bound transcriptional factor by a bacterial HMGA‐type protein is required for regulating multiple processes in Myxococcus xanthus
Marcos Peñalver-Mellado,Francisco García-Heras,Subramanian Padmanabhan,Diana García-Moreno,Francisco J. Murillo,Montserrat Elías-Arnanz +5 more
TL;DR: It is reported that every CarD‐regulated process analysed also requires the product of gene carG, located immediately downstream of and transcriptionally coupled to carD, and thus CarD and CarG work as a single, physically linked, transcriptional regulatory unit.

Differential proinflammatory activities of Spike proteins of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern
Sylwia D. Tyrkalska,A. Martinez-Lopez,Ana B. Arroyo,Francisco J. Martínez-Morcillo,Sergio Candel,Diana García-Moreno,Pablo Mesa-del-Castillo,María L. Cayuela,Victoriano Mulero +8 more
TL;DR: Light is shed into the mechanisms orchestrating the COVID-19–associated CSS and the host immune response to different SARS-CoV-2 S protein variants as well as the proinflammatory role of Spike (S) proteins from different severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 variants of concern in zebrafish.
