Intestinal farnesoid X receptor signaling promotes nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Changtao Jiang,Changtao Jiang,Cen Xie,Fei Li,Limin Zhang,Robert G. Nichols,Kristopher W. Krausz,Jingwei Cai,Yunpeng Qi,Zhong-Ze Fang,Shogo Takahashi,Naoki Tanaka,Dhimant Desai,Shantu Amin,Istvan Albert,Andrew D. Patterson,Frank J. Gonzalez +16 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that inhibition of an intestinal FXR/ceramide axis mediates gut microbiota-associated NAFLD development, linking the microbiome, nuclear receptor signaling, andNAFLD.
Intestine-selective farnesoid X receptor inhibition improves obesity-related metabolic dysfunction.
Changtao Jiang,Cen Xie,Ying Lv,Jing Li,Kristopher W. Krausz,Jingmin Shi,Chad Brocker,Dhimant Desai,Shantu Amin,William H. Bisson,Yulan Liu,Oksana Gavrilova,Andrew D. Patterson,Frank J. Gonzalez +13 more
TL;DR: Treatment of mice with glycine-β-muricholic acid (Gly-MCA) inhibits FXR signalling exclusively in intestine, and improves metabolic parameters in mouse models of obesity, suggesting that Gly-M CA may be a candidate for the treatment of metabolic disorders.
Sulforaphane inhibits prostate carcinogenesis and pulmonary metastasis in TRAMP mice in association with increased cytotoxicity of natural killer cells.
Shivendra V. Singh,Renaud Warin,Dong Xiao,Anna A. Powolny,Silvia D. Stan,Julie A. Arlotti,Yan Zeng,Eun-Ryeong Hahm,Stanley W. Marynowski,Ajay Bommareddy,Dhimant Desai,Shantu Amin,Robert A. Parise,Jan H. Beumer,William H. Chambers +14 more
TL;DR: The results of the present study indicate that SFN administration inhibits prostate cancer progression and pulmonary metastasis in TRAMP mice by reducing cell proliferation and augmenting NK cell lytic activity.

Effect of caffeic acid esters on carcinogen-induced mutagenicity and human colon adenocarcinoma cell growth.
TL;DR: Caffeic acid esters which are present in Propolis possess chemopreventive properties when tested in short-term assay systems, and indicate that MC, PEC and PEDMC were not mutagenic in the Salmonella tester system.

Chemoprevention of carcinogen-induced mammary tumorigenesis by the hybrid polar cytodifferentiation agent, suberanilohydroxamic acid (SAHA).
Leonard A. Cohen,Shantu Amin,Paul A. Marks,Richard A. Rifkind,Dhimant Desai,Victoria M. Richon +5 more
TL;DR: This study represents the first demonstration that an HPC agent, namely SAHA, can inhibit the development of a chemically-induced, solid, epithelial tumor, at a relatively low dose (approximately 13 mgs/rat/day) without untoward side effects.
