TL;DR: While many of the compounds tested displayed poor pharmacokinetics, compound 48 was found to be more potent than terazosin in both a rat model of prostate tone and a dog model of intra-urethral pressure without significantly affecting blood pressure.

TL;DR: In vivo, this compound effectively blocked the phenylephrine-stimulated increase in intraurethral pressure (IUP) in mongrel dogs, at doses which did not significantly affect the arterial pressure (diastolic blood pressure, DBP), with a DBP Kb/IUP Kb ratio of 16.5%.

- 16 Nov 1995
TL;DR: In this paper, a dihydropyrimidine compound which is a selective antagonist for human α-1A receptors was used for lowering intraocular pressure, inhibiting cholesterol synthesis, relaxing lower urinary tract tissue, and for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, impotency, cardiac arrhythmia and any disease where the antagonism of the α1A receptor may be useful.
