PK-M2-mediated metabolic changes in breast cancer cells induced by ionizing radiation
Le Zhang,Justine Bailleul,Taha Yazal,Kevin Dong,David Sung,Amy Dao,Laura Gosa,David Nathanson,Kruttika Bhat,Sara Duhachek-Muggy,Claudia Alli,Milana Bochkur Dratver,Frank Pajonk,Erina Vlashi +13 more
TL;DR: The results show that activators of PK-M2 can deplete breast cancer stem cells in vitro, which supports the idea of combining PK- M2 activators with radiation to enhance the effect of radiotherapy in resistant cancers, such as TNBC.

1-[(4-Nitrophenyl)sulfonyl]-4-phenylpiperazine treatment after brain irradiation preserves cognitive function in mice.
Kruttika Bhat,Paul Medina,Ling He,Le Zhang,Mohammad Saki,Angeliki Ioannidis,Nhan T. Nguyen,Sirajbir S. Sodhi,David Sung,Clara E. Magyar,Linda M. Liau,Harley I. Kornblum,Frank Pajonk +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that NSPP has the potential to mitigate cognitive decline in patients undergoing partial or whole brain irradiation without promoting tumor growth and that the use of this compound as a radiation mitigator of radiation late effects on the Central nervous system (CNS) warrants further investigation.

PKM2 rewires glucose metabolism during radiation therapy to promote an antioxidant response and glioblastoma radioresistance.
Justine Bailleul,Yangjingyi Ruan,Lobna Abdulrahman,Andrew J. Scott,Taha Yazal,David Sung,J. Nathaniel,Fang-I Chu,Daisy Palomera,Anahita Sehgal,Jonathan Tsang,David Nathanson,Shili Xu,Junyoung O. Park,Johanna ten Hoeve,Kruttika Narayan Bhat,Nathan Qi,Harley I. Kornblum,Dörthe Schaue,William H. McBride,Costas A. Lyssiotis,Daniel R. Wahl,Erina Vlashi +22 more
TL;DR: In this article , the effects of radiation on glucose metabolism of human glioblastoma (GBM) specimens were examined in vitro and in vivo with the use of metabolic and enzymatic assays, targeted metabolomics, and FDG-PET.

Abstract C59: NRF2 drives metabolic reprogramming in irradiated pancreatic cancer cells and promotes radioresistance
TL;DR: NRF2 plays a pivotal role in promoting radiation resistance of KRAS-mutated PDAC tumors by driving powerful antioxidant responses through metabolic reprogramming and cytoprotective autophagy, and may be targeted therapeutically to reverse the chemo/radioresistant phenotype of PDAC.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of compound #5 on irradiated murine neurospheres, microglia cells, and patients-derived gliomaspheres were assessed in sphere-formation assays, flow cytometry and IL-6 ELISAs.
