Histogram equalization using neighborhood metrics
Mark Eramian,David Mould +1 more
- 09 May 2005
TL;DR: A refinement of histogram equalization which uses both global and local information to remap the image grey levels and finds that its methods can provide an improvement in contrast enhancement versus HE, while avoiding undesirable over-enhancement that can occur with LHE and other methods.
A stained glass image filter
David Mould
- 25 Jun 2003
TL;DR: This paper uses erosion and dilation operators to manipulate and smooth an initial region segmentation tiling; it chooses tile colors from the palette of heraldic tinctures; and it renders a displacement-mapped plane to obtain the final image.

Contrast-aware Halftoning
Hua Li,David Mould +1 more
TL;DR: This paper proposes two variants of a simple but efficient algorithm for structure‐preserving halftoning that extends Floyd‐Steinberg error diffusion and attempts to preserve and enhance structure also.
Simulating wax crayons
Dave Rudolf,David Mould,Eric Neufeld +2 more
- 08 Oct 2003
TL;DR: A physically-inspired model of wax crayons is presented, which synthesizes drawings from collections of user-specified strokes, and a crayon is modeled with a 2D mask that evolves as it interacts with the paper.
Stipple placement using distance in a weighted graph
David Mould
- 20 Jun 2007
TL;DR: A stipple placement method which provides extra emphasis to image features, especially edges, and shows how irregular mosaics can be organized and the mosaic tiles shaped using the same underlying mechanism.
