FT-IR spectra of alginic acid block fractions in three species of brown seaweeds.
TL;DR: Two-dimensional spectra were collected to confirm the fine structure of the hetero- and homopolymeric fractions, and good agreement was obtained between its corresponding calculated vibrations and the experimental bands assigned to homopolyguluronic acid blocks.

Characterization of sodium alginate and its block fractions by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy
Marcelo Campos-Vallette,Nancy P. Chandía,E. Clavijo,David Leal,Betty Matsuhiro,Igor O. Osorio-Román,Simonet Torres +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of sodium alginates and their hetero-and homopolymeric fractions obtained from four seaweeds of the Chilean coast was studied.

Vibrational spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations of poly-D-mannuronate and heteropolymeric fractions from sodium alginate
TL;DR: In this paper, the tetrasaccharide of 1 → 4 β-D-mannopyranuronate (MM) and the alternating MG were analyzed based on density functional theory by employing the Gaussian 03 W package.

Preparation and characterization of hydrogels based on homopolymeric fractions of sodium alginate and PNIPAAm
TL;DR: Both hydrogel types showed significant changes in swelling ratios between 20 and 45 °C: the swelling ratio decreases near the LCST of PNIPAAm and the water absorption and retention capacity of graft hydrogels increases with pH, reaching a maximum value at pH 7.0.

Chemical structure and biological properties of sulfated fucan from the sequential extraction of subAntarctic Lessonia sp (Phaeophyceae).
David Leal,Andrés Mansilla,Betty Matsuhiro,Mauricio Moncada-Basualto,Mauricio Moncada-Basualto,Michel Lapier,Juan Diego Maya,Claudio Olea-Azar,W.M. De Borggraeve +8 more
TL;DR: The antioxidant capacity of SF by ESR showed high elimination index (IC50, mg/mL) of hydroxyl, alkoxy, and peroxyl radicals in relation to commercial mannitol, which would allow its potential biomedical application.
