The present invention provides a method and apparatus for the manipulating computer-based representations of objects of complex and unique geometry. A computer acquires data describing an object and its surroundings, constructs a computer-based three dimensional model of the object from that data, superimposes an ideal geometry on the computer-based model, and alters the ideal geometry to fit the form and function required of the reproduction. The present invention presents two embodiments for manipulating computer-based representations of three dimensional objects.

A method is described for representing a treatment site (10) of a patient as data suitable for use with a computer-aided design device (46). The method includes scanning the treatment site(10) with a scanning apparatus (40), such as a CT scanner, to produce image data; determining the image data that represents the surface of the item; generating vectors from the determined data; and associating the vectors with poles of a non-uniform rational B-spline so that a polynomial equation may be generated, which is a data form suitable for use with CAD devices.

The object-oriented class library comprises related object-oriented classes for enabling the application to access in an object-oriented manner services provided by the operating system. The object-oriented classes include methods for accessing the operating system services using procedural function calls compatible with the native procedural interface of the operating system. The computer processes object-oriented statements contained in the application and defined by the class library by executing methods from the class library corresponding to the object-oriented statements.

Another feature of the invention is that multiple TCUs can be serially coupled to enable addition texture colors to be combined in a single execution path.

Texture compositing apparatus and method

A digital image that includes first and second regions is processed. An intrinsic color of a given pixel located in an area of interest that is adjacent to at least one of the first and second regions is estimated by extrapolating from colors of multiple pixels in one of the first and second regions and multiple pixels in the other of the two regions.
