A decision support system for the management of an agile supply chain that provides an architecture including a server side and a client side. The server side includes a decision support system database that interfaces with model engine that performs analysis of the data to support planning decisions. The server side includes a server manager that coordinates requests for service and information. The client side includes decision frames that present the various view points available in the system to the users. A frame manager coordinates the requests from decision support frames to access the needed data and models. The decision support frames provide a view into supply chain and integrate analytical models responsive to the view point of a business process such as demand management. The frames include a supply management frame, a demand management frame, a vendor managed replenishment frame, a Planning, Sales and Inventory planning frame and a distribution network design frame. The model engine includes a component procurement policy development module, a finished goods distribution network design module, an aggregate production planning module, a finished goods inventory management module, a sales forecasting and planning module, a market data analysis module, a vendor managed replenishment module and various utilities such as generic linear programming solvers and statistical analysis routines. The system also includes a demand and supply reconciliation process reconciling production, sales and inventory and reconciling a top-down forecast with a bottom-up forecast where an expert based model is used for the bottom-up forecast. A capacity planning process determines the feasibility of a capacity plan responsive to supply constraints. A vendor managed replenishment process plans inventory replenishment analysis and periods responsive to predicted sales and supply constraints. A scenario management process associated with all frames enables the user to analyze different hypothetical scenarios for comparison of business plans. The frame manager includes a system integrator and a functional integrator. A database management system manages the supply and maintenance of information needed by the modeling processes through the frame manager. A domain management process limits data available to said frames responsive to a user selection.

The Customer Activated Multi-Value (CAM) card provides a customer with a primary use as a transaction card which can be further activated to have a secondary use as a credit card. The CAM card can be activated as a transaction card or as a transaction card with a credit card feature. Activation of the CAM card as a transaction card allows the customer to purchase goods and services from one specific vendor and to establish a relationship with that vendor for the goods or services rendered (for example, telephone calling card or gasoline product purchasing card) while enjoying reward benefits based on those to purchases. Activation of the credit feature of the card allows the customer to interact with any merchant that accepts traditional credit cards such as VISA®, MASTERCARD®, AMERICAN EXPRESS®, or DISCOVER®. The combination of features allows a customer to purchase various goods and services from several different merchants. If the customer chooses to activate the CAM card as both a transaction card and a credit card, the customer is given the benefit of using the card in both manners described above.

This invention allows sellers (11) conveniently to offer 'Demand-Based Pricing', that is, prices which go down as the volume of units sold in any given offer goes up. A seller (11a) can therefore offer volume discounts to buyers (15) acting as a group, even when the buyers (15) may not have any formal relationship with one another.

A computer system and computer-implemented method for controlling inventory of vendors at one level of a part distribution chain. The system includes a computer programmed with software for generating order data in response to reference data indicative of sales, inventory, demographics, and/or market characteristics of or pertaining to at least two vendors at the same distribution level. The order data is indicative of one or more of a recommended inventory increase transaction (such as a reorder by a vendor of a sold part); an inventory reduction transaction (such as a return of one or more parts in stock at the vendor); and a recommended stocking level of one or more parts by the vendor. When the computer is operated by personnel of a first vendor, it receives reference data concerning at least one other vendor at the same distribution level (in addition to processing reference data concerning the first vendor. When the computer is a host computer, it receives reference data from two or more vendors at the same distribution level. Preferably, the computer which generates the order data is programmed to generate the order data by processing forecast data which is generated by processing the reference data. To generate the forecast data, the computer preferably implements a point-of-sale based method or an actuarial method to determine a forecast of sales of a part by a vendor in a selected time period.
