Spectroscopic Investigations of the Structural Phase Transition in Gd2(Ti1-yZry)2O7 Pyrochlores
Nancy J. Hess,Bruce D. Begg,Steven D. Conradson,David E. McCready,P. L. Gassman,William J. Weber +5 more
TL;DR: The Gd2(Ti1-yZry)2O7 pyrochlore series undergoes a structural phase transition from pyro chlore (Fd3m) to defect fluorite (Fm3m), which can be driven compositionally by increasing the Zr content or thermally by sintering Zr-rich compositions at temperatures above 1550 °C as discussed by the authors.

Negligible magnetism in excellent structural quality Cr(x)Ti(1-x)O(2) anatase: contrast with high-T(C) ferromagnetism in structurally defective Cr(x)Ti(1-x)O(2).
Tiffany C. Kaspar,Steve M. Heald,Chong M. Wang,J. D. Bryan,Timothy C. Droubay,Vaithiyalingam Shutthanandan,Suntharampillai Thevuthasan,David E. McCready,A. J. Kellock,Daniel R. Gamelin,Scott A. Chambers +10 more
TL;DR: It is shown for the first time that charge-compensating oxygen vacancies alone, as predicted by F-center mediated exchange, are not sufficient to activate ferromagnetism and instead, the onset of ferromaggnetism correlates with the presence of structural defects.

Nanoscale effects on ion conductance of layer-by-layer structures of gadolinia-doped ceria and zirconia
Samina Azad,Olga A. Marina,Chong M. Wang,Laxmikant V. Saraf,Vaithiyalingam Shutthanandan,David E. McCready,Anter El-Azab,J. E. Jaffe,Mark H. Engelhard,Charles H. F. Peden,Suntharampillai Thevuthasan +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a combination of lattice strain and extended defects due to lattice mismatch between the heterogeneous structures may contribute to the enhancement of oxygen ionic conductivity in this layered oxide system.

Processing and Electrical Properties of Alkaline Earth‐Doped Lanthanum Gallate
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that the oxide gallate powders were sintered to densities greater than 97% of the theoretical densities of the perovskite structure, and that the conductivity of the doped gallates was higher than that of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ).

Heavy-ion irradiation effects in Gd2(Ti2−xZrx)O7 pyrochlores
TL;DR: Gd2(Ti2−xZrx)O7 samples with 0.5 were single-phase and pyrochlore structured after sintering at 1600°C in air as discussed by the authors.
