Bioreactors are essential tools in tissue engineering and drug delivery research, providing controlled environments for cell growth, tissue development, and optimization of manufacturing parameters. There are various types of bioreactors, including static, dynamic, perfusion, and rotating systems, each offering unique advantages depending on the application. Key design considerations for bioreactors include the size, geometry, components, materials, and operating conditions needed to support the cultured tissue or organ. Stimuli-responsive materials have emerged as essential components in the design of bioreactors and the fabrication of scaffolds for various applications in tissue engineering and drug delivery. These intelligent materials possess the ability to modulate their properties and functionalities in direct response to external stimuli such as temperature, pH, light, electric or magnetic fields, and biochemical signals. This inherent responsiveness affords precise control over the spatiotemporal manipulation of physical and chemical cues, thereby influencing cellular behavior and facilitating controlled release of therapeutic agents. Commonly employed stimuli-responsive polymers encompass thermoresponsive, pH-responsive, light-responsive, and redox-responsive materials.3D printing techniques allow fabrication of complex, customized scaffolds using digital designs and living cell-laden bio-inks. Bioprinting combined with stimuli-responsive materials enables 4D printing of dynamic scaffolds that transform over time when triggered. Ongoing research aims to optimize bioreactor design, develop novel smart biomaterials, achieve multi-material 4D printing, and enhance responsiveness to internal stimuli for advanced tissue engineering and drug delivery applications.

<h2>Abstract</h2> For the past two decades researchers have linked extracellular vesicle (EV)-mediated mechanisms to various physiological and pathological processes in the heart, such as immune response regulation, fibrosis, angiogenesis, and the survival and growth of cardiomyocytes. Although use of EVs has gathered momentum in the cardiac field, several obstacles in both upstream and downstream processes during EV manufacture need to be addressed before clinical success can be achieved. Low EV yields obtained in small-scale cultures deter clinical translation, as mass production is a prerequisite to meet therapeutic doses. Moreover, standardizing EV manufacture is critical given the inherent heterogeneity of EVs and the constraints of current isolation techniques. In this review, we discuss the critical steps for the large-scale manufacturing of high-potency EVs for cardiac therapies.

As a result, the long-term outlook for the advancement of AI, regenerative medicine, and stem cells in the healthcare industry is incredibly bright. AI is being used in healthcare to discover new drugs and to provide personalized medicine based on big data. It can improve medical diagnosis and treatment plans. Regenerative medicine has the potential to repair damaged tissues and organs through stem cell-based regenerative medicine. Stem cell research is also undergoing significant development as a major component of the approach to regenerative medicine. In the future, it is expected that it will contribute to more personalized and more effective treatments. Integrating AI can help model and simulate cellular behavior, analyze, and process images for cell tracking and tissue engineering, and analyze large amounts of genomic and proteomic data. Together, these fields have the potential to transform healthcare and improve patient outcomes. 

Artificial Intelligence and Its Integration with Regenerative Medicine Approach

It is a great challenge to scale up current cell therapy processes developed in 2D systems, and bioreactor technology could play an essential role in the scale-up of cell therapeutic products. Cell quality is critical to the therapeutic efficacy and their critical quality attributes (CQAs) are tightly related to their manufacturing processes. Employment of appropriate bioreactors for cellular products would enhance the productivity, reduce the cost as well as ensure the product CQAs. The article reviews current commercially available bioreactors and their applications for regenerative therapeutic products. Regulatory, quality, and manufacturing aspects of these bioreactors are discussed.
