Applications, systems and methods for permitting simultaneous use of a file by two or more computers over a network may include storing the file locally in a local storage device associated with a local computer; providing access to the file by at least one remote computer which is connectable to the local computer via the network, and wherein at least one of the computers is connectable to the network through a firewall element. The file may be stored in at least one remote storage device associated with the at least one remote computer, respectively, and versions of the file contained on the one or more remote storage devices are synchronized with that on the local device by transmitting over the network connecting the one or more remote storage devices with the local device, at least one of Delta files and Inverse Delta files between the remote storage devices and the local storage device. A method of remotely observing computer activity on a second computer remote with respect to a first computer is also provided. Further, file sharing systems and methods are provided for sharing files among computers.

When the client's CDN is not a primary CDN for the content provider but the client's CDN has a content peering relationship with a primary CDN for the content provider, redirecting the client to a server within the client's CDN. When the client's CDN is not a primary CDN for the content provider and the client's CDN does not have a content peering relationship with a primary CDN for the content provider, redirecting the client to a server outside the client's CDN.

Bandwidth-hogging applications such as browsers can be identified from the statistics and given lower priority.

A method and apparatus for translating a static identifier into a dynamically assigned network address. In one embodiment, a dynamic database address is used to access a dynamic database. A static identifier corresponding to the device to be contacted is provided, and the dynamic database returns an appropriate dynamically assigned network address corresponding to the static identifier. A static identifier includes a telephone number arranged in a predetermined format to which a static portion is appended. An Internet Domain Name System (DNS) domain may be used as the static appended portion. This translation of a static identifier into a dynamically assigned network address may be applied to DNS servers. A system of the present invention includes a network, an intermittently connected device, and a dynamic database server. The device has a static identifier and an assigned network address. The dynamic database stores the static identifier and the assigned network address when the intermittently connected device sends a log on request to the database server. The intermittently connected device and the dynamic database server may communicate using the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

In a computer video conferencing system it is often necessary to transmit multiple channels of information between remote computers, such as a video channel, an audio channel and data sharing channel. A socket based transport interface can be utilized to establish communication channels between remote computers over a connection oriented telephony network. A plurality of sockets are created at each endpoint, one for each type of data stream to be transferred between the computers. The sockets are formed into a group to indicate to the computer transport service provider that the data streams from the sockets can utilize the same telephony connection, and a quality-of-service specification is associated with the socket group so that the telephony connection can be established according to the requirements of the socket group. If a new data stream needs to be transmitted and there is already a telephony connection established, a new socket is created and added to the existing socket group. If the newly added socket significantly affects the quality-of-service requirements of the socket group, a new quality-of-service may be negotiated with the telephony network.
