In this fast growing world of technology we still stand in the queue or buy with oyster & octopus cards for our suburban tickets, which is more frustrating at times to stand in the queue or if we forget our cards. This paper Android Suburban Railway (ASR) ticketing is mainly to buy the suburban tickets which is the most challenging when compared to booking the long journey tickets through ‘M-ticket’ which fails with suburban(local travel) tickets. Our ASR ticket can be bought with just a smart phone application, where you can carry your suburban railway tickets in your smart phone as a QR (Quick Response) code. It uses the smart phones “GPS” facility to validate and delete your ticket automatically after a specific interval of time once the user reaches the destination. User's ticket information is stored in a CLOUD database for security purpose which is missing in the present suburban system. Also the ticket checker is provided with a checker application to search for the user's ticket with the ticket number in the cloud database for checking purposes.

This thesis studies the Message Queue Telemetry Transport protocol (MQTT) as an application layer protocol in geographical location sharing applications using third generation cellular communication (3G). The MQTT protocol is compared in terms of energy efficiency and amount of data generated with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which is currently used in typical location sharing applications.In order to compare the communication energy efficiency of both protocols a location sharing application prototype was developed for the Android platform. The application allows the use of HTTP and MQTT and was used to perform a number of experiments.The evaluation experiments show that MQTT is a good candidate as a protocol for location sharing. At comparable bandwidth and energy expenses MQTT offers better quality of user experience, since the subscribers are notified at once when the location of clients of interest has changed. The MQTT protocol is more energy-efficient than the HTTP protocol when the number of other uses with whom the client shares location is low and the location updates are frequent. The experiments also indicate that MQTT protocol is more energy-efficient than HTTP protocol in idle state, when there are no location information updates due to inactivity of all the clients, for example, if they are stationary. This is because MQTT client does not spend energy to poll the server for information updates.

Energy Consumption in Location Sharing Protocols for Android Applications

A game-theoretic framework based on the iterated prisoner's dilemma (IPD) is proposed to model the repeated dynamic interactions of multiple source nodes when communicating with multiple destinations in an ad hoc wireless network. In such networks where nodes are autonomous, selfish and not familiar with other nodes' strategies, fully cooperative behaviours cannot be assumed. Therefore reinforcement learning is studied to relate the utility function of each source node to actions previously taken in order to learn a strategy that maximises their expected future reward. Particularly, a Q-learning algorithm is proposed to allow network nodes to adapt to and play the IPD game against opponents with a variety of known and unknown strategies. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed Q-learning algorithm allows network nodes to play optimally and achieve their maximum expected return values.

Cooperation in wireless networks: a game-theoretic framework with reinforcement learning

Android has become the most popular platform for mobile devices. However, Android still has critical performance issues, such as "application not responding" errors and hiccups resulting from garbage collection. Many phone vendors have tried to resolve the problems by characterizing and improving the performance. However, there are few insightful performance analysis tools for the Android-based systems. This paper presents AndroScope, which is a performance analysis tool for both the Android platform (Dalvik virtual machine, core libraries, Android libraries, and even Linux kernels) and its applications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first tool to collect and analyze performance data from all the software layers of the Android-based systems. AndroScope offers a trace mechanism to collect such deep and wide performance data as hardware performance counters, time, and memory usage. In addition, the tool includes TraceBridge, which is a middleware for the fast handling of mass logs. Moreover, AndroScope offers an integrated graphical user interface with the Android software development kit to display a great volume of the detailed performance data.
