This chapter presents a bibliometric analysis of extended reality technologies (i.e., augmented, virtual, and mixed reality) concerning physical fitness by analyzing 251 published documents from Scopus-indexed sources. Results from the analysis indicated that medicine and computer science are the prominent subject areas, and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and Lecture Notes in Computer Science are the leading publishers in this domain. The analysis further found variability in terms of authorship patterns and international collaboration in 58 documents. In addition to this, the analysis found that there has been a steady increase in publications in this domain, with a substantial surge from 2019 onwards. The United States and China are the leading contributors, with several collaborative networks among countries, particularly among high-income, western nations. Furthermore, the keyword co-occurrences indicated that there is a focus on VR, gamification, and health issues related to older adults.

Data science in sports analytics: A review of performance optimization and fan engagemen

Pest detection is important for crop cultivation. Crop leaf is the main place of pest invasion. Current technologies to detect crop pests have constraints, such as low efficiency, storage demands and limited precision. Image segmentation is a fast and efficient computer-aided detection technology. High resolution image capture solidly supports the crucial processes in discerning pests from images. Study of analytical methods help parse information in the images. In this paper, a regional convolutional neural network (R-CNN) architecture is designed in combination with the radial bisymmetric divergence (RBD) method for enhancing the efficiency of image segmentation. As a special application of RBD, the hierarchical mask (HM) is produced to endorse detection and classification of the leaf-dwelling pests, offering enhanced efficiency and reduced storage requirements. Moreover, to deal with some mislabeled data, a threshold variable is introduced to adjust a fault-tolerant mechanism into HM, to generate a novel threshold-based hierarchical mask (TbHM). Consequently, the hierarchical mask R-CNN (HM-R-CNN) model and the threshold-based hierarchical mask R-CNN (TbHM-R-CNN) model are established to detect various types of healthy and pest-invasive crop leaves to select the regional image features that are rich in pest information. Then simple linear iterative clustering (SLIC) method is incorporation to finish the image segmentation for the classification of pest invasion. The models are tuned and optimized, then validated. The most optimized modeling results are from the TbHM-R-CNN model, with the classification accuracy of 96.2%, the recall of 97.5% and the F1 score of 0.982. Additionally, the HM-R-CNN model observed appreciable results second only to the best model. These results indicate that the proposed methodologies are well-suited for training and testing a dataset of plant diseases, offering heightened accuracy in pest classification. This study revealed that the proposed methods significantly outperform the existing techniques, marking a substantial improvement over current methods. 

Image segmentation for pest detection of crop leaves by improvement of regional convolutional neural network

This study explores the effectiveness of exercise monitoring systems in improving athlete performance and motivation within educational settings. Two hypotheses were formulated and tested: one positing that the utilization of exercise monitoring systems would reduce muscle injury rates among athletes, and the other suggesting that it would increase athletes' motivation levels. The experimental design involved dividing participants into experimental and control groups, with the former utilizing the proposed exercise monitoring system and the latter employing traditional teaching methods. Assessments were conducted post-session to measure comprehension and motivation levels, with evaluation criteria focusing on the accurate identification of course components. Contrary to expectations, the results did not support the hypotheses, indicating no significant reduction in muscle injury rates or increase in motivation levels among athletes exposed to the monitoring system. These findings underscore the need for a nuanced understanding of the complex factors influencing athlete development and performance outcomes. Future research should employ rigorous methodologies and objective outcome measures to further elucidate the role of exercise monitoring systems in athlete development and optimize their integration into training programs, thus contributing to advancements in athlete performance and motivation in educational contexts. Traditionally, performance analysis in sports relied on manual data collection, subjective observations, and standard statistical models. These methods, while effective, had limitations in terms of time and subjectivity. However, recent advances in technology have ushered in a new era of objective and real-time performance analysis. AI has revolutionized sports analysis by streamlining data collection, processing vast datasets, and automating information synthesis. VR introduces highly realistic training environments, allowing athletes to train and refine their skills in controlled settings. AR overlays digital information onto the real sports environment, providing real-time feedback and facilitating tactical planning. DV techniques convert complex data into visual representations, improving the understanding of performance metrics. In this paper, we explore the potential of these emerging technologies to transform sports performance analysis, offering valuable resources to coaches and athletes. We aim to enhance athletes’ performance, optimize training strategies, and inform decision-making processes. Additionally, we identify challenges and propose solutions for integrating these technologies into current sports analysis practices. This narrative review provides a comprehensive analysis of the historical context and evolution of performance analysis in sports science, highlighting current methods’ merits and limitations. It delves into the transformative potential of AI, VR, AR, and DV, offering insights into how these tools can be integrated into a theoretical model.

The science that is done by students in grade school settings naturally differs considerably from that done by actual scientists. While much of this difference is attributable to differences in age and experience between the two groups, it may be possible to decrease the gap between the learner and the researcher in science. To explore this possibility, an educational design research (EDR) study was conducted from the perspectives of complexity and networks, communities of practice, and integral theory, the goal being to assess the potential outcomes of engaging learners in a student-led science conference called the celebration of science (CoS).

CoS and Effect: An Integral View

Traditional mathematics instruction serves many purposes in today ’ s education systems. Providing step-by-step guidance and lecture-style tuition in mathematics is often the norm. However, emerging insights into challenge, grit, and optimal teaching and learning strategies suggest that there may be benefit from increasing the mental burden on students. A short-term investigation was conducted into the use of choice, unstructured assessment and a “ locked box ” style of student-directed task for a high school calculus class of ESL students in China. Results were encouraging and suggested the emergence of a complex learning system composed of individual students that transcended the typical classroom experience.
