CX3CR1+ mononuclear phagocytes control immunity to intestinal fungi.
Irina Leonardi,Xin Li,Alexa Semon,Dalin Li,Itai Doron,Gregory G. Putzel,Agnieszka S. Bar,Daniel Prieto,Maria Rescigno,Dermot P.B. McGovern,Jesús Pla,Iliyan D. Iliev +11 more
TL;DR: The results unravel a role of CX3CR1+ MNPs in mediating interactions between intestinal mycobiota and host immunity at steady state and during inflammatory disease.
The role of the cell wall in fungal pathogenesis
TL;DR: The main structural carbohydrate components of the fungal wall are reviewed, how their biogenesis takes place in fungi and the specific receptors that they interact with and the functional consequences of this interaction are illustrated.

Serum Antibody Profile during Colonization of the Mouse Gut by Candida albicans: Relevance for Protection during Systemic Infection.
TL;DR: Different immunocompetent murine models were established to analyze the antibody responses to the C. albicans proteome during commensalism, commensals followed by infection, and infection (C, C+I, and I models, respectively) and highlighted the importance of fungal gut colonization for future immune prophylactic therapies.

TL;DR: The Small World Initiative (SWI) and Tiny Earth are a consolidated and successful education programs rooted in the USA that tackle the antibiotic crisis by a crowdsourcing strategy that involves two education levels (higher education and high school) with different degrees of responsibility.

TLR2 modulates gut colonization and dissemination of Candida albicans in a murine model.
TL;DR: It is described that both wild type and TLR2-/- mice strains, orally administered with Candida albicans yeasts, display similar sustained high level of gut colonization when oral antibacterial treatment is present, while removal of antibiotic treatment causes a progressive clearance of yeasts in control but not in TLR 2- +/- mice.
