TL;DR: Intraocular lens implants in infants may be associated with a higher complication rate requiring further surgery during the first postoperative year than is lensectomy/vitrectomy surgery without IOL implant in infants or lenseCTomy/IOL/ vitrectom surgery in children older than 6 months of age.

TL;DR: Surgical alignment of congenital esotropia can be achieved in the 4-month-old with bimedial rectus recession, but this does not ensure continued alignment and at least one additional surgical procedure is required on average to maintain alignment in the first 10 years after initial successful surgery.
