Availability in globally distributed storage systems
Daniel Ford,François Labelle,Florentina Popovici,Murray Stokely,Van-Anh Truong,Luiz Andre Barroso,Carrie Grimes,Sean Quinlan +7 more
- 04 Oct 2010
TL;DR: This work characterize the availability properties of cloud storage systems based on an extensive one year study of Google's main storage infrastructure and presents statistical models that enable further insight into the impact of multiple design choices, such as data placement and replication strategies.
A new family of Markov branching trees: the alpha-gamma model
TL;DR: The alpha-gamma trees as mentioned in this paper are a two-parameter family of discrete fragmentation trees that extends Ford's alpha model to multifurcating trees and includes the trees obtained by uniform sampling from Duquesne and Le Gall's stable continuum random tree.

Selecting two-dimensional imagery data for display within a three-dimensional model
Matthew Tschudy Bell,David Alan Gausebeck,Gregory William Coombe,Daniel Ford,William John Brown +4 more
- 13 Mar 2015
TL;DR: In this paper, a system and methods for generating 3D models with correlated three-dimensional and two-dimensional imagery data are provided. But the system is limited to two dimensions and three dimensions.

A method for investigating relative timing information on phylogenetic trees
TL;DR: A new way to describe the timing of branching events in phylogenetic trees in terms of the relative timing of diversification events between sister clades is presented, complementary to existing methods using lineages-through-time plots which consider diversification in aggregate.

Semantic understanding of 3d data
Matthew Tschudy Bell,David Alan Gausebeck,Daniel Ford,Gregory William Coombe +3 more
- 06 Jun 2014
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a system and techniques for processing 3D data associated with a 3D model of an architectural environment and at least a portion of the captured 3D images associated with flat surfaces is identified.
