This paper aims a) to analyze the challenges in teaching aviation vocabulary and radio phraseology at high school level in English language instructors’ perspective and b) to present some recommendations that can help to reduce encountered problems if taken into consideration in the design and implementation of the related syllabus and course program. This study is based on a qualitative research model in which focus group interview is used as the data collection procedure. It is a fact that the challenges encountered in teaching technical vocabulary initiate from the very nature of teaching English for specific purposes to the learners of English as a foreign language. According to the results of this study, the problems occurring in learning environment are classified and analyzed in two main categories: The first group of problems arises from the students’ language competence and motivation. The second originates from instructors who are mostly experienced, therefore more motivated in English language teaching but not in aviation as a technical field.

Le contexte aeronautique a depuis plusieurs annees mis en evidence le besoin croissant de technologies de securite permettant d'eviter des utilisations malveillantes des materiels ou services installes a bord des avions. La plupart des approches de securisation 'avion' se concentre sur des methodes et techniques permettant de securiser les echanges au sein de l'avion. Elles sont cependant inadaptees a la securisation dans les cas d'interconnexion des reseaux avioniques avec le reste des reseaux de communication (reseau Internet par exemple). Le probleme aborde dans ce travail de these vise donc a proposer une architecture de securite et de surete pour l'ensemble des communications aeronautiques et permettant une interconnexion securisee entre le monde 'avion' et le monde exterieur, en tenant compte de l'ensemble des criteres de securite qui caracterisent les divers environnements traverses et considere des le depart les divers principes de standardisation associes afin de garantir la perennite scientifique et industrielle.La solution architecturale proposee dans ce travail de these repose principalement sur un composant central de routage, de filtrage et de securisation des flux de donnees aeronautiques. Le travail de conception et de developpement de ce composant appele Routeur Securise de Nouvelle Generation (routeur SNG) a permis une validation experimentale sur un systeme reproduisant un systeme embarque.

Departing from our earlier work on conceptualizing "social drones," we enrich the discussion using notions of "agent archetypes" and "objects with intent" from recent interaction design literature We briefly unpack these notions, and argue that they are useful in characterizing both design intentions and human perceptions Thus they have the potential to inform the creation and study of HDI artifacts Upon these notions, we synthesize relevant implications and directions for design research, in the form of research questions and design challenges These questions and challenges inform our current and future work We submit our resources, arguments, aims, and hypotheses to the iHDI 2020 community as a reflective exercise, aiming to refine our work in synergy with other participants

Agent archetypes for human-drone interaction: Social robots or objects with intent?

More and more off-the-shelf drones provide frameworks that enable the programming of flight paths These frameworks provide vendor-dependent programming and communication interfaces that are intended for flight path definitions However, they are often limited to outdoor and GPS-based use only A key disadvantage of such a solution is that they are complicated to use and require readjustments when changing the drone model This is time-consuming since it requires redefining the flight path for the new framework This workshop paper proposes additional features for DronOS, a community-driven framework that enables model-independent automatisation and programming of drones We enhanced DronOS to include additional functions to account for the specific design constraints in human-drone-interaction This paper provides a starting point for discussing the requirements involved in designing a drone system with other researchers within the human-drone interaction community We envision DronOS as a community-driven framework that can be applied to generic drone models, hence enabling the automatisation for any commercially available drone Our goal is to build DronOS as a software tool that can be easily used by researchers and practitioners to prototype novel drone-based systems

Don't Drone Yourself in Work: Discussing DronOS as a Framework for Human-Drone Interaction.

In search and rescue (SAR) operations, drones can provide clear and timely situational overview data and object identification. However, the current one-to-one relationship between operators and drones limits scalability. Swarm solutions have been proposed to overcome this limitation, but there are few examples of control concepts for SAR operations. Human-swarm interaction (HSI) presents new challenges in terms of task design, control loops, communication, and managing uncertainty. We present an exploratory study of integrating drone swarms into SAR organizations, with a focus on challenges and opportunities for HSI. Our findings highlight the need for a holistic approach to drone swarm systems design, development, and integration. Careful system and task design is vital to reduce operator workload, maximize situational awareness, and maintaining effective communication among SAR team members. Building trust through technology exposure and training is also important. We identify several key research avenues, including adaptive and intelligent swarm control mechanisms, trust dynamics between operators and swarms, participatory design work, legal and operational frameworks, and the organizational impact of drone swarm integration. Overall, this paper contributes to HSI and SAR research by addressing research gaps concerning the integration effects and constraints of drone swarms in current work settings. The study highlights the potential for implementing drone swarms in semi-voluntary SAR organizations, while emphasizing the importance of considering the tasks and interactions between humans and drones when assessing overall system performance.
