Modern vehicles are increasingly interconnected through various communication channels, which requires secure access for authorized users, the protection of driver assistance and autonomous driving system data, and the assurance of data integrity against misuse or manipulation. While these advancements offer numerous benefits, recent years have exposed many intrusion incidents, revealing vulnerabilities and weaknesses in current systems. To sustain and enhance the performance, quality, and reliability of vehicle systems, software engineers face significant challenges, including in diverse communication channels, software integration, complex testing, compatibility, core reusability, safety and reliability assurance, data privacy, and software security. Addressing cybersecurity risks presents a substantial challenge in finding practical solutions to these issues. This study aims to analyze the current state of research regarding automotive cybersecurity, with a particular focus on four main themes: frameworks and technologies, standards and regulations, monitoring and vulnerability management, and testing and validation. This paper highlights key findings, identifies existing research gaps, and proposes directions for future research that will be useful for both researchers and practitioners. 

Automotive Cybersecurity: A Survey on Frameworks, Standards, and Testing and Monitoring Technologies

With the rapid advancement of technology and multimedia systems, ensuring security has become a critical concern. Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) are vulnerable to various hacking techniques, including jamming and spoofing. Global Positioning System (GPS) location spoofing poses a significant threat to CAVs, compromising their security and potentially endangering pedestrians and drivers. To address this issue, this research proposes a novel methodology that uses deep learning (DL) algorithms, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and machine learning (ML) algorithms, such as Support Vector Machine (SVM), to protect CAVs from GPS location spoofing attacks. The proposed solution is validated using real-time simulations in the CARLA simulator, and extensive analysis of different learning algorithms is conducted to identify the most suitable approach across three distinct trajectories. Training and testing data include GPS coordinates, spoofed coordinates, and localization algorithm values. The proposed machine learning algorithm achieved 99% and 96% accuracy for the best and worst case scenarios, respectively. In case of deep learning, it achieved as high as 99% for best and 82% for the worst case scenario. 

Securing Autonomous Vehicles Against GPS Spoofing Attacks: A Deep Learning Approach

With the advent of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) comes the very real risk that these vehicles will be exposed to cyber-attacks by exploiting various vulnerabilities. This paper gives a technical overview of the H2020 CARAMEL project (currently in the intermediate stage) in which Artificial Intelligent (AI)-based cybersecurity for CAVs is the main goal. Most of the possible scenarios are considered, by which an adversary can generate attacks on CAVs, such as attacks on camera sensors, GPS location, Vehicle to Everything (V2X) message transmission, the vehicle's On-Board Unit (OBU), etc. The counter-measures to these attacks and vulnerabilities are presented via the current results in the CARAMEL project achieved by implementing the designed security algorithms.
