Review: Multi-agent systems for protecting critical infrastructures: A survey

Public agencies are increasingly required to collaborate with each other in order to provide high-quality e-government services. This collaboration is usually based on the serviceoriented approach and supported by interoperability platforms. Such platforms are specialized middleware-based infrastructures enabling the provision, discovery and invocation of interoperable software services. In turn, given that personal data handled by governments are often very sensitive, most governments have developed some sort of legislation focusing on data protection. This paper proposes solutions for monitoring and enforcing data protection laws within an E-government Interoperability Platform. In particular, the proposal addresses requirements posed by the Uruguayan Data Protection Law and the Uruguayan E-government Platform, although it can also be applied in similar scenarios. The solutions are based on wellknown integration mechanisms (e.g. Enterprise Service Bus) as well as recognized security standards (e.g. eXtensible Access Control Markup Language) and were completely prototyped leveraging the SwitchYard ESB product.

An E-government Interoperability Platform Supporting Personal Data Protection Regulations

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate electronic health record (EHR) initiatives at the national/external level. Governments are investing large amounts of money in national EHR systems. These systems are socially and politically complex and a variety of stakeholders (e.g. at the individual, organisational or national level) have an interest in evaluating such systems from technical, economic or patient outcome perspectives. In cognisance of academic research in the area, this paper presents an approach which uses the perspective of one particular type of professional critic, the media, to identify issues and evaluate their impact at a national level.Design/methodology/approach – The work is conducted using an established evaluation framework and formal content analysis of selected relevant articles from the quality press of three selected countries.Findings – Different issues take prominence in centralised vs decentralised EHR approaches. A media analysis approach to evaluating national health information infrastructure development

Healthcare is an information-intensive domain and therefore information technologies are playing an ever-growing role in this sector. They are expected to increase the efficiency of the delivery of healthcare services in order to both improve the quality and reduce the costs. In this context, security has been identified as a priority although several gaps still exist. This paper reports on the results of assessing the threats to XDS-based architectures. Accordingly, an architectural solution to the identified threats is presented.

Hardening XDS-Based Architectures

The objective of this work is to develop a platform supporting the secure and quick deployment of distributed medical applications creating an environment and associated tools for the usage of medical personnel in their interaction with patients. We adopted the electronic health record (EHR) architecture blueprint as developed by Canada Health Infoway, which proposes Web service technology as an integration platform. We developed this environment for distributed and collaborative use by selected medical personnel using the combination of communication networks such as the Ca*net 4, ORION, NETERAnet and NCIT*net. This intelligent platform will enable the mining, retrieval, modification, management, and synchronization of various databases used by doctors in handling data in regards to patients and their illnesses, and last but not least, will examine and provide the security requirements associated with Web services in the context of e-Health applications.
