Impact of weather parameters on productivity of selected crops in mandya district- a statistical approach lakshmi, l. n. palb 2167

Aims: To evaluate the impact of tillage and weed management techniques on Plant dry weight, Yield, nutrient uptake by plant and depletion by weed in lentil crop (Lens culinaris M.). 
Place and Duration of Study: A field study was conducted at Research Farm of Tirhut College of Agriculture, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar, India, from Oct 2020 to Mar 2021. 
Methodology: The experiment followed a split-plot design with three replications. The main plots consisted of three tillage practices (M1: Zero tillage, M2: Minimum tillage, and M3: Conventional tillage), while subplots included five weed management practices [T1: control, T2: 1 hand weeding at 20 DAS, T3: chlorimuron-ethyl 4 g/ha (pre-emergence) + paddy straw mulching (5.0 t/ha), T4: quizalofop-ethyl 40 g/ha at 20 DAS (post-emergence) and T5: chlorimuron-ethyl 4 g/ha (pre-emergence) + quizalofop-ethyl 40 g/ha at 20 DAS (post-emergence)]. 
Results: Among the tillage practices conventional found most effective in term of increasing plant dry weight, grain yield, straw yield, nutrient uptake by crop while effectively reduce the weed dry matter and nutrient depletion by the weed. Among the weed management practices hand weeding proved to be the most effective weed management practice, leading to higher plant dry matter, grain yield, straw yield and nutrient uptake by crop and least weed dry matter weight and nutrient depletion by weeds. Among the chemical weeding chlorimuron ethyl (PE) + paddy straw mulching showed comparable effectiveness to hand weeding in all the parameters. These results highlight the importance of tillage practices and effective weed management techniques in optimizing plant growth, yield, nutrient uptake, and weed control.

Effect of Tillage and Weed Management Practices on Dry Matter, Yield and Nutrient Uptake by Plant and Depletion by Weed in Lentil Crop (Lens culinaris M.)

The present study measured physical properties of lentil and wild oat weed; mass of 1000 seeds, true density, porosity and coefficient of static friction. A gravity table separator was used to separate wild oat weeds from lentil seeds. The gravity table separator had five adjustable parameters; longitudinal slope, latitudinal slope, amplitude of oscillation, frequency of oscillation and air velocity. The effect of these parameters was investigated in order to maximize the separation of wild oat weed from lentil. Results of tests indicated that an increase in latitudinal slope of the table from 0.5° to 1° and longitudinal slope from 1.5° to 2° resulted in increased separation of wild oat weed from lentil. At longitudinal slope of 2°, latitudinal slope of 1°, amplitude of oscillation of 5 mm, frequency of oscillation of 400 cycles min-1, and air velocity of 5.7 m s-1, the separation percentage was 37%. Finally, after determination of the most suitable settings for amplitude of oscillation and air velocity; using the information on longitudinal slope, latitudinal slope and frequency of oscillation of the table was used to calculate mathematical relations of separation percentage of wild oat weed from lentil clumps using Datafit Software.

Pulses constitute one of the most important component of human diet and major source of protein particularly for the vegetarian population. By virtue of their higher nutritive value and capacity to restore soil productivity, pulses have been an important component of sustainable cropping systems. India has the distinction of being the top producer of pulses in the world accounting 25 percent of global output. Among pulses, chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important Rabi pulse crop of India, occupying a premier position both in area and production. Weed management is an important key factor for enhancing the productivity of chickpea. Effect of Pre and Post Emergence Herbicide on Chickpea Crop Production

In India Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) is one of the most essential pulse crop. It is a key source of protein. It plays an important role in human nutrition for large population in the developing world but its productivity is relatively low. There are lots of reasons for low productivity. Weed is the basic problem in all cereals as well as pulses. Weed control is the basic requirement of crop at below the economic threshold level. Chickpea is poor competitive crop with weeds because slow growth rate and development. It has limited branches and low leaf area weed competition of chickpea up to 60 days after sowing (Singh and Singh, 2000). Chickpea is highly susceptible to weed competition and the weeds causes 75% of yield losses (Chaudhary et. al. 2005). Considering the losses caused due to weeds, it is essential to manage the weeds within their critical crop-weed competition period.

Studies on chemical weed management in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.): A review

The effect of chemical weed management practices in lentil was studied during 2010–11 and 2011–12 at Agra (Utter Pradesh). The treatments included: control, pendimethalin 0.50 kg/ha, pendimethalin 0.75 kg/ha, pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha, pendimethalin 1.25 kg/ha, pendimethalin 1.50 kg/ha and hand weeding. All herbicidal treatments including hand weeding significantly controlled the weeds. Among all the treatments hand weeding gave the highest weed control (84.8%) and produced lower weed biomass (54.0 g/m2). It gave maximum net income (` 30,850) with CBR of 1:4.4. Pendimethalin 1.5 kg/ha controlled the weeds effectively but germination of seeds were affected. Highest grain yield (1.50 t/ha) was recorded from hand weeding plot with 48.6 and 52.0% increase in yield during 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Chemical weed management in lentil

Indo-Gangetic plains comprising the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal became a focal point of studies for the agricultural vulnerability to climate change. Lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) is one of the important winter pulse crops after chickpea in India. The major abiotic stress affecting lentil crop is cold, drought, heat salinity, nutrient deficiency and nutrient toxicity. A micro-level location specific study was conducted to understand the impact of weather changes on lentil crop production at Agra. The average maximum (26.1oC) and minimum temperature (10.4oC) at cropping period (October-March) for the three years (2001-03) was considered as a base line for the purpose of analysis of 10 years’ weather data. The deficit of rainfall (25.7 mm) along with increase in maximum and minimum temperature by 0.4o and 0.6oC resulted in considerable abiotic stress on lentil crop production. Flower drop/pod drop in lentil increased during the observation period and abiotic stress may be the major cause of concern for lowering of yield. The estimated yield losses may be as follows (a) deficit in 10 mm rainfall can result in yield loss of 60.6 kg/ha, and (b) increase in maximum and minimum temperature by 0.1oC can result in yield loss of 38.9 and 25.9 kg/ha, respectively. Similarly, a separate attempt was made to understand the probable impact of annual weather changes on the yield of lentil crop at Agra.

Response of lentil crop (Lens culinaris Medik.) to changing weather trends at Agra

A field experiment was carried out to find the response of farm yard manure, chemical fertilizer and biofertilizer on mungbean crop at experimental farm of Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra during kharif seasons of 2009 and 2010. The experiment consisted of five treatments and five replications and impact of the treatments was observed on yield and yield parameters of mungbean crop. The application of farm yard manure+chemical fertilizer increased the grain and biological yield of mungbean (38.2 and 50.6% and 44.1 and 43.2%, respectively) in the two years. Seed inoculation with biofertilizer also influenced the yield of mungbean significantly, while combined treatment of biofertilizer+chemical fertilizer increased the grain yield by 58.7 and 67.4%, respectively, in 2009 and 2010.
