Growing concern regarding energy resources and the environment has increased interest in the study of alternative sources of energy. To meet increasing energy requirements, there has been growing interest in alternative fuels like biodiesel to provide a suitable diesel oil substitute for internal combustion engines. Biodiesels offer a very promising alternative to diesel oil since they are renewable and have similar properties. It is a promising substitute as an alternative fuel and has gained significant attention due to the predicted shortness of conventional fuels and environmental concern. The utilization of liquid fuels such as biodiesel produced from waste cooking oil by transesterification process represents one of the most promising options for the use of conventional fossil fuels. However, as the biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils and animal fats, there are concerns that biodiesel feedstock may compete with food supply in the long-term. Hence, the recent focus rely on using waste cooking oil as the substantial feed stocks for biodiesel production.

Temperature control in an exothermic continuous stirred tank reactor

In this paper, comparative studies were carried out on electrochemical and photo oxidation processes to degrade the synthetic effluent containing ethyl benzene. The electrochemical oxidation was carried out in galvanostatic mode with lead oxide as anode and a stainless steel plate as the cathode in the presence of 2 g/L of NaCl has been added as a supporting electrolyte. The electrochemical treatment was optimized by response surface methodology (RSM), which results in 73.42 % was the highest percentage of COD removal, and the optimum conditions were satisfied at current density 1.82 A/dm 2 , time 2 h, flow rate 10 l/h, volume 3.63 L occurs at minimum power consumption 15 kWh/kg COD. It was followed by the photo oxidation process was carried out in the presence of Ultra Violet radiation emitted from Ultra Violet source was investigated. From the study, it was observed that percentage of COD reduction, and Biodegradability Index was found to be the maximum of 98.42 % and 0.712 respectively, the optimized irradiation time was 45 minutes for pretreated effluent has been investigated. This combined method appears to be a promising technology and has potential application for environmental remediation.

Experimental Studies on Electrochemical and Photo Oxidation of Effluent Containing Ethyl Benzene and Optimization Using RSM

The number of vehicles on the road has increased by a factor of ten in recent years. As a result of the pollutants emitted by these vehicles on and off the road, ambient air quality has deteriorated significantly. It also increases greenhouse gas emissions as more CO2 is discharged into the atmosphere. As a result, researchers are concentrating on reducing fuel usage and emissions. Because fossil fuel stocks are decreasing, there is an increasing demand for alternative energy. Alternative fuels such as biodiesel and ethanol, which are made from vegetable oil and sugar molasses, are both renewable and environmentally friendly. Blending fuels to increase the combustion qualities of fuel has recently become a viable alternative. A single-cylinder, water-cooled diesel engine with a rated output of 3.7kW at 1500 rpm was used in the tests. We tested diesel, biodiesel and biodiesel with a 10% DMM blend with and without EGR and biodiesel with a 20% DMM blend with and without EGR. Biodiesel with DMM blends has lower thermal efficiency, produces less smoke and emits more NOx. NOx emissions were lowered whereas smoke emissions increased after EGR was used.

The present research work explores the possibility of use of HVOF sprayed cermet coating Stellite-6 on gas turbine material Titanium Alloy (Ti-31). The coating is investigated for their resistance to erosion under laboratory conditions. Solid particle erosion studies were conducted using silica sand as the erodent. Erosion studies were done with impact angles of 30º, 60º and 90º. Stellite-6 coating performs better under sand erosion conditions. Stellite-6 coatings undergo damage by brittle mode. Erosion behavior of the substrate materials is ductile and resistance is better than the coating material. SEM microstructures were used for scar produced by the erodent, at 30º, 60º and 90º. impact angles, also indicates that the material damage is due to ploughing and entrapment of silica particles.
