In metal-free systems, interactions were studied between L-aspartic acid (Asp) and the tetramines 1,11-diamino-4,8-diazaundecane (3,3,3-tet) and 1,12-diamino-4,9-diazadodecane, spermine (Spm), and in the systems of both ligands with Cu(II). The formation of molecular complexes of the (Asp)H x (tetramine) type was evidenced by results from equilibrium and spectral studies. An increase in the efficiency of the reaction between the bioligands was observed with the increasing length of the polyamine chain. For aspartic acid, the centers of interaction are carboxyl and amine groups, whereas in tetramine molecules it is the amine groups. The effect of inversion was observed in the adducts (Asp)H4(tetramine) and (Asp)H3(tetramine). Coordination selectivity in the mixed-ligand formation of copper(II)glycyl-DL-serine with some amino acids

Binary and ternary complexes formed by copper(II) with thio- or dithiodialkanoic acids and ethyl-substituted malonic acids have been investigated potentiometrically in an aqueous solution and the relevant stability constants have been evaluated using computer technique. Thio- and dithiodialkanoic acids were thiodiacetic, dithiodiacetic, 3,3′-thiodipropionic, and 3,3′-dithiodipropionic acids. The results are discussed in terms of substituent influences upon the chelation of the malonate dianions to the systems copper(II)-thiodialkanoic acids. It is suggested that in the mixed copper chelates containing thiodiacetic acid, the geometrical characteristics of the more basic ligand, governs the coordination of the other ligand.

The coordination chemistry of amino acids and peptides is of considerable interest, due to its biological importance. In the case of glycine and phenylalanine, extensive studies have been made of the thermodynamic and kinetic condition of complex formation with 3d5-3d10 transition metal ions and of structural features of the resulting complexes.1–6 Fairly abundant knowledge is available on the complexes of glycylphenylalanine with transition metal ions, primarily, copper(II), zinc(II) and nickel(II).1,7–9 Because of their roles in the storage and transport in the neurotransmitters,10 attention has been focused on the study of the interactions with transition metal ions.11 It is interesting to note that although ligands such as phenylalanine, glycyl-phenylalanine and glycyl-tyrosine contain aromatic substituent groups that appear to interact with metal ions, particularly copper ion, they do not promote significant stereoselectivity in simple binary complexes.11,12 However, there is evidence that i...
