Mild to moderate cognitive impairment is a major risk factor for mortality and nursing home admission in the first year after hip fracture
F. Schaller,E. Sidelnikov,Robert Theiler,Andreas Egli,Hannes B. Staehelin,W. Dick,Bess Dawson-Hughes,D. Grob,Andreas Platz,U. Can,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari +10 more
TL;DR: Mild to moderate cognitive impairment in patients with acute hip fracture is associated with a high risk of mortality and nursing home admission during the first year after hip fracture, and female gender, a greater BMI and a higher 25-hydroxyvitamin D status may protect against mortality after hip fractures independent of cognitive function.

Gender-specific hip fracture risk in community-dwelling and institutionalized seniors age 65 years and older.
M. Finsterwald,E. Sidelnikov,Endel J. Orav,Bess Dawson-Hughes,Robert Theiler,Andreas Egli,Andreas Platz,H.-P. Simmen,Christoph R. Meier,D. Grob,S. Beck,Hannes B. Stähelin,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari +12 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed for seniors living in the community that women have a higher risk of hip fracture than men, however, among institutionalized seniors, men are at higher risk for hip fracture.
Calcifediol Versus Vitamin D3 Effects on Gait Speed and Trunk Sway in Young Postmenopausal Women: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial
Otto W. Meyer,Bess Dawson-Hughes,E. Sidelnikov,Andreas Egli,D. Grob,Hannes B. Staehelin,G. Theiler,Reto W. Kressig,H.-P. Simmen,Robert Theiler,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari +10 more
TL;DR: Calcifediol improved gait speed in early postmenopausal women compared with vitamin D3 and change in 25(OH)D level was moderately correlated with improvement in gait speeds, but no effect could be demonstrated for trunk sway.

Perioperative Risikostratifizierung geriatrischer Patienten bei nichtkardialen Eingriffen
TL;DR: In this article, a perioperative Risikostratifizierung unterstutzt die Behandlungsteams, risikopatienten zu erkennen, und den Be-Handlungsplan entsprechend auszurichten.
Before and after hip fracture, vitamin D deficiency may not be treated sufficiently
S Maier,S Maier,E. Sidelnikov,Bess Dawson-Hughes,Andreas Egli,Robert Theiler,Andreas Platz,Hannes B. Staehelin,H.-P. Simmen,Christian Meier,Walter Dick,D. Grob,A. von Eckardstein,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari +13 more
TL;DR: The findings show that only about 20 % of seniors receive vitamin D supplementation prior to their index hip fracture or after the event, and those who receive supplementation have significantly higher 25(OH)D status.
