Quark helicity distributions from longitudinal spin asymmetries in muon-proton and muon-deuteron scattering

We show how to realise quantum state transfer between distant qubits using the chiral edge states of a two-dimensional topological spin system. Our implementation based on Rydberg atoms allows to realise the quantum state transfer protocol in state-of-the-art experimental setups. In particular, we show how to adapt the standard state transfer protocol to make it robust against dispersive and disorder effects.

Robust quantum state transfer via topologically protected edge channels in dipolar arrays

Using the force-matching method we develop an interatomic potential that allows us to study the structure and properties of α-U, γ-U and liquid uranium. The potential is fitted to the forces, energies and stresses obtained from ab initio calculations. The model gives a good comparison with the experimental and ab initio data for the lattice constants of α-U and γ-U, the elastic constants, the room-temperature isotherm, the normal density isochore, the bond-angle distribution functions and the vacancy formation energies. The calculated melting line of uranium at pressures up to 80 GPa and the temperature of the α-γ transition at 3 GPa agree well with the experimental phase diagram of uranium.

Interatomic potential for uranium in a wide range of pressures and temperatures

The chaotic dynamics of roto-translatory motion of a triaxial Kelvin-type gyrostat satellite under gravity gradient perturbations is considered. The Hamiltonian approach is used for modelling of the coupled spin-orbit equations of motion. The complex Hamiltonian of the system is reduced via the extended Deprit canonical transformation using the Serret-Andoyer variables. Therefore, this reduction leads to the derivation of the perturbation form of the Hamiltonian that can be used in the Ricci curvature criterion based on the Riemannian manifold geometry for the analysis of chaos phenomenon. The results obtained from Ricci method as well as the values from the Lyapunov exponent demonstrate the presence of a strange attraction and chaotic responses in the perturbed system. Ricci-based chaos analysis for roto-translatory motion of a Kelvin-type gyrostat satellite

In this work, we looked into the adsorption and diffusion properties of atomic carbon and oxygen on the basal plane of 1T′-MoS2 monolayer via density functional theory calculations. Due to the 2  ×  1 reconstruction in single-layer 1T′-MoS2, two distinct adsorption sites for atomic carbon and oxygen were identified: ST (longer Mo-S bond length similar to the effect of a tensile strain) and SC (shorter Mo-S bond similar to the effect of a compressive strain). In all cases, carbon and oxygen adsorb stronger on the ST site, with oxygen binding higher by up to 1 eV on both sites. Moreover, it is found that carbon and oxygen hopping from an ST site to a nearby SC site is described by very high diffusion barriers, which implies poor atomic mobility on the surface but nevertheless could be useful is certain film deposition processes and surface functionalization. It is further found that applying biaxial tensile strain on 1T′-MoS2 affects carbon and oxygen adsorption differently: carbon binding on both ST and SC sites shows a dramatic change in the adsorption energy resulting to an irregular adsorption energy trend with increasing biaxial strain, while oxygen binding appears to be negligibly affected, with very minimal changes in the adsorption energy. These results are of importance in the assessment of certain dissociation reactions on the surface, such as that of CO and O2, including how biaxial strain affects the adsorption of each by-product atoms.
