Predictors of a successful primary bladder closure in cloacal exstrophy: A multivariable analysis
John Jayman,Ali Tourchi,Zhaoyong Feng,Bruce J. Trock,Mahir Maruf,Karl Benz,Matthew Kasprenski,Timothy Baumgartner,D. Friedlander,Paul D. Sponseller,John P. Gearhart +10 more
TL;DR: Using the staged approach with a pelvic osteotomy is paramount to a successfulPrimary bladder closure in CE as these factors independently increase the chance for a successful primary bladder closure.

Predictors and outcomes of perioperative blood transfusions in classic bladder exstrophy repair: A single institution study
Mahir Maruf,John Jayman,Matthew Kasprenski,Karl Benz,Zhaoyong Feng,D. Friedlander,Timothy Baumgartner,Bruce J. Trock,H. Di Carlo,Paul D. Sponseller,John P Gearhart +10 more
TL;DR: While there was an association between transfusions and osteotomy, delayed primary closure, larger diastasis, increased operative time, and increased length of stay, only the use of pelvic osteotomies, higher EBL-to-weight ratio, and recent year of closure independently increased the odds of receiving a transfusion on multivariate analysis.

Impact of pelvic immobilization techniques on the outcomes of primary and secondary closures of classic bladder exstrophy.
Mohammad H. Zaman,Matthew Kasprenski,Mahir Maruf,Karl Benz,John Jayman,D. Friedlander,H. Di Carlo,Paul D. Sponseller,John P Gearhart +8 more
TL;DR: It is the authors' belief that despite a longer hospital length of stay, external fixation with Buck's traction provides the best chance of a successful closure and, thus, a financially responsible method to care for these children in the postoperative period.

Patient-Reported Impact of Pelvic Organ Prolapse on Continence and Sexual Function in Women With Exstrophy-Epispadias Complex.
Ross G. Everett,Kathy M. Lue,Sunil Reddy,D. Friedlander,Cameron E. Alexander,Ezekiel E. Young,Mahmoud Abdelwahab,Nilay M. Gandhi,Edward James Wright,John P. Gearhart +9 more
TL;DR: P pelvic organ prolapse poses significant reductions in quality of life for women born with exstrophy, with effects on urinary continence and sexual function.

Continence after BNR in the complete repair of bladder exstrophy (CPRE): A single institution expanded experience.
Heather N. Di Carlo,Roni Manyevitch,Wayland J. Wu,Mahir Maruf,Jason Michaud,D. Friedlander,John P. Gearhart +6 more
TL;DR: The largest known series of BNRs in exstrophy patients closed by CPRE is found, with additional indication that successful primary closure and use of pelvic osteotomies may correlate with enhanced continence.
