Wet or dry multifunctional coating prepared by visible light polymerisation with fire retardant, thermal protective, and antimicrobial properties
Susan Oliver,Lei Lei,Ka Wai Fan,Cheng Wang,Juan-Carlos Baena,Phuong Pham,Qianlan Lin,Imrana I. Kabir,Edgar H. H. Wong,Anthony Chun Yin Yuen,Cyrille Boyer,Guan Heng Yeoh +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used oxygen tolerant, visible light-activated free radical polymerization to functionalise cotton with a biocompatible, fire retardant, antimicrobial coating that provided good fire retardancy when dry, and quickly absorbed water to provide exceptional fire retardance and thermal insulation in more extreme fire conditions.
Rational Design of an Antifungal Polyacrylamide Library with Reduced Host-Cell Toxicity.
Sebastian Schaefer,Sebastian Schaefer,Thi Thu Phuong Pham,Sascha Brunke,Bernhard Hube,Bernhard Hube,Kenward Jung,Megan D. Lenardon,Cyrille Boyer +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a library of 35 synthetic, linear, ternary polyacrylamides was prepared by controlled/living radical polymerization, and the effect of the degree of polymerization and varying hydrophobic functionalities on their antifungal activity was investigated.
Transformation of gels via catalyst-free selective RAFT photoactivation
Sivaprakash Shanmugam,Julia Cuthbert,Jacob Flum,Marco Fantin,Cyrille Boyer,Tomasz Kowalewski,Krzysztof Matyjaszewski +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a metal-free approach was proposed to prepare the STEM networks by selectively activating the fragmentation of trithiocarbonate RAFT agent by relying on visible light RAFT iniferter photolysis coupled with RAFT addition-fragmentation process.
Heterogeneous Photocatalysis as a Means for Improving Recyclability of Organocatalyst in “Living” Radical Polymerization
TL;DR: In this article, a novel heterogeneous catalytic system consisting of Eosin Y conjugated to silica nanoparticle (EY-SNP) was explored to promote visible light photoinduced electron/energy transfer-reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (PET-RAFT) polymerization.
2-(Methylthio)ethyl Methacrylate: A Versatile Monomer for Stimuli Responsiveness and Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly in the Presence of Air
TL;DR: In this paper, the photoinduced electron/energy transfer (PET-RAFT) polymerization of 2-(methylthio)ethyl methacrylate (MTEMA) using 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphine zinc (ZnTPP) as a photocatalyst under visible red light (λmax = 635 nm).
