The purpose of this research was to measure the effect of word of mouth, perceived price, and service quality toward brand image and purchase decision. This research also aimed to measure the mediating effect of Brand Image toward the relationship between word of mouth, perceive price, and service quality with the purchase decision. This study used a survey technique that utilised questionnaires as research instruments for 200 respondents who have visited Surabaya hotels as well as Partial Least Square (PLS) data analysis techniques. The findings in this research proved that Word of Mouth, Perceived Price, and Service Quality have a significant positive effect on Brand Image and Purchase Decision. This research also revealed that brand image also has an intervening effect in the relationship of Word of Mouth, Perceived Price, and Service Quality with Purchase Decision.

Brand image among the purchase decision determinants

Pricing optimization is key to the airlines’ profitability. Oftentimes, the premium cabin demand falls short of the seat capacity, making economy cabin seat upgrading a common practice. The common procedure in the airline industry solves the revenue management optimization for premium cabin first and then to determine the number of seats left for lower cabin upgrading, which together with the lower cabin seat capacity, allows to solve the lower (economy) cabin optimization. In comparison, this paper develops models to combine all the cabin capacities, including economy and premium (business/first), and solve the optimization simultaneously. The models consider cases with deterministic and random demand, respectively. Numerical tests use actual production data and indicate that the proposed models outperform the current ones in practice. 

Airlines Seat Pricing with Seat Upgrading

We consider a wide class of spiking neuron models, defined by rather general set of conditions typical for basic models like leaky integrate and fire, or binding neuron model. A neuron is fed with a point renewal process. A relation between the three probability density functions (pdf): (i) pdf of input interspike intervals, (ii) pdf of output interspike intervals of a neuron with instantaneous feedback and (iii) pdf for that same neuron without feedback is derived. This allows to calculate any of the three pdfs provided the another two are given. Similar relation between corresponding means and variances is derived. The relations are checked exactly for the binding neuron model.

In a $\delta-$shock model, a system subject to randomly occurring shocks, the system fails when the time between two successive shocks lies below a threshold $\delta$. In this note, we study the generalization of this model where such $\delta-$shocks are accumulated and the system fails on the occurrence of $k^{th}$ such a $\delta-$shock. The probability distribution of the system failure time and the statistical characteristics are explicitly obtained. Normal approximation to the failure time distribution is proposed.
