Spin multiplicity effects in doublet versus singlet emission: the photophysical consequences of a single electron.
Caleb M. Wehrmann,Muhammad Imran,Craig A. Pointer,Lisa A. Fredin,Elizabeth R. Young,Mark S. Chen +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that unrestricted TDDFT accurately reproduces experimental absorption spectra and provides an opportunity to examine the relaxed excited-state properties of large open-shell molecules like RC, a potential strategy for developing π-conjugated radicals with new emission properties.
Anthracene-based azo dyes for photo-induced proton-coupled electron transfer.
TL;DR: A new donor-acceptor system for photo-induced proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) that leverages an azo linkage as the proton -sensitive component and anthracene as a photo-trigger is reported.

Short Excited-State Lifetimes Enable Photo-Oxidatively Stable Rubrene Derivatives.
Jack Ly,Kara Martin,Simil Thomas,Simil Thomas,Masataka Yamashita,Beihang Yu,Craig A. Pointer,Hiroko Yamada,Kenneth R. Carter,Sean Parkin,Lei Zhang,Lei Zhang,Jean-Luc Brédas,Jean-Luc Brédas,Elizabeth R. Young,Alejandro L. Briseno,Alejandro L. Briseno +16 more
TL;DR: This work shows that shorter excited-state lifetimes result in increased photo-oxidative stability in these rubrene derivatives, and confirms that faster relaxation kinetics out-compete the formation of reactive oxygen species that ultimately degrade linear oligoacenes.

Synthesis, Electrochemistry, and Photophysics of Pd(II) Biladiene Complexes Bearing Varied Substituents at the sp3-Hybridized 10-Position.
Qiuqi Cai,Anthony T. Rice,Craig A. Pointer,Maxwell I. Martin,Brendan Davies,An Yu,Kaytlin Ward,Phoebe R. Hertler,Molly C. Warndorf,Glenn P. A. Yap,Elizabeth R. Young,Joel Rosenthal +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a set of Pd(II) biladiene complexes bearing different combinations of methyl and phenyl-substituents on the sp3-hybridized meso-carbon (the 10position) was prepared and studied.

Control of Intramolecular Isomerization Reactivity of an Azobenzene Derivative Anchored to ZrO2 Nanoparticle Thin Films
TL;DR: In this article, an azobenzene derivative was applied to ZrO2 nanoparticle thin films to increase the thermal isomerization rate and decrease the extent of photoisomerization.
