Non-Invasive Antibody Assessment in Saliva to Determine SARS-CoV-2 Exposure in Young Children.
Constanze Heinzel,Yudi T Pinilla,Käthe Elsner,Evelyn Friessinger,Benjamin Mordmüller,Peter G. Kremsner,Jana Held,Rolf Fendel,Andrea Kreidenweiss +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a saliva ELISA was applied to assess SARS-CoV-2 exposure in young children (N = 837) in the age between 1 and 10 years in Tubingen, Germany, towards the end of the first pandemic year 2020.
Antibody Binding and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 Binding Inhibition Is Significantly Reduced for Both the BA.1 and BA.2 Omicron Variants
Daniel Junker,Matthias Becker,Teresa R Wagner,Philipp D. Kaiser,Sandra Maier,Tanja M Grimm,Johanna Marie Griesbaum,Patrick Marsall,Jens Gruber,Bjoern Traenkle,Constanze Heinzel,Yudi T. Pinilla,Jana Held,Rolf Fendel,Andrea Kreidenweiss,Annika Nelde,Yacine Maringer,Sarah Schroeder,Juliane S. Walz,Karina Althaus,Gunalp Uzun,Marco Mikus,Tamam Bakchoul,Katja Schenke-Layland,Stefan Bunk,Helene A. Haeberle,Siri Göpel,Michael Bitzer,Hanna Renk,Jonathan Remppis,Corinna Engel,Axel R. Franz,Manuela Harries,Barbora Kessel,Berit Lange,Monika Strengert,Gérard Krause,Anne Zeck,Ulrich Rothbauer,Alex Dulovic,Nicole Schneiderhan-Marra +40 more
TL;DR: While Omicron was capable of efficiently binding to ACE2, antibodies elicited by infection or immunization showed reduced binding capacities and ACE2 binding inhibition compared to wild type, and among vaccinated samples, antibody binding to OmicRON only improved after administration of a third dose.
Immune response to SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern in vaccinated individuals
Matthias Becker,Alex Dulovic,Daniel Junker,Natalia Ruetalo,Philipp D. Kaiser,Yudi T Pinilla,Constanze Heinzel,Julia Haering,Bjoern Traenkle,Teresa R Wagner,Mirjam Layer,Martin Mehrlaender,Valbona Mirakaj,Jana Held,Hannes Planatscher,Katja Schenke-Layland,Gérard Krause,Monika Strengert,Tamam Bakchoul,Karina Althaus,Rolf Fendel,Andrea Kreidenweiss,Michael Koeppen,Ulrich Rothbauer,Michael Schindler,Nicole Schneiderhan-Marra +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the neutralization capacity of the antibody response against a patient-isolated South African variant was tested by viral neutralization tests and further verified by an ACE2 competition assay.
Complementary methods for SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis in times of material shortage.
Thaisa Lucas Sandri,Juliana Inoue,Johanna Geiger,Johanna-Marie Griesbaum,Constanze Heinzel,Michael Burnet,Rolf Fendel,Peter G. Kremsner,Jana Held,Andrea Kreidenweiss +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of self-sampled alternative swabbing material (ordinary Q-tips tested against flocked swab and rayon swab), of reagents for classical RNA extraction (phenol/guanidine-based protocol against a commercial kit), and of intercalating dye-based one-step quantitative reverse transcription real-time PCRs (RT-qPCR) compared against the gold standard hydrolysis probe-based assays for SARS-CoV-2 detection.
Antibody binding and ACE2 binding inhibition is significantly reduced for the Omicron variant compared to all other variants of concern

TL;DR: While omicron was capable of binding to ACE2 efficiently, antibodies elicited by infection or immunization showed reduced IgG binding and ACE2 binding inhibition compared to wild-type (WT) and all VOCs and variants of interest (VOI).
