A Framework for Integrating Qualitative and Quantitative Data in Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Studies: A Case Study of Pesticide Usage in Eastern Uganda.
TL;DR: The framework shows that a KAP linear relationship only existed for households with a low knowledge score, suggesting that an awareness campaign would only be effective for ~37% of the households, and context specific socioeconomic factors explain why this relationship does not hold for householdsWith high knowledge scores.
Knowledge and attitude towards Ebola and Marburg virus diseases in Uganda using quantitative and participatory epidemiology techniques.
Luke Nyakarahuka,Eystein Skjerve,Daisy Nabadda,Doreen Sitali,Chisoni Mumba,Frank Norbert Mwiine,Julius J. Lutwama,Stephen Balinandi,Trevor Shoemaker,Clovice Kankya +9 more
TL;DR: Communities in Uganda affected by filovirus outbreaks have moderate knowledge about these diseases and have a positive attitude towards practices to prevent and control Ebola and Marburg viral diseases.
Ecological Niche Modeling for Filoviruses: A Risk Map for Ebola and Marburg Virus Disease Outbreaks in Uganda.
Luke Nyakarahuka,Samuel Ayebare,Gladys Mosomtai,Clovice Kankya,Julius J. Lutwama,Frank Norbert Mwiine,Eystein Skjerve +6 more
TL;DR: This study used species distribution modeling to predict where filovirus outbreaks are likely to occur in Uganda to help in epidemic preparedness and surveillance and showed that bats as potential reservoirs of filoviruses are distributed all over Uganda.

Prevalence, antimicrobial susceptibility and risk factors associated with non-typhoidal Salmonella on Ugandan layer hen farms
Terence Odoch,Terence Odoch,Yngvild Wasteson,Trine M. L'Abée-Lund,Adrian Muwonge,Clovice Kankya,Luke Nyakarahuka,Luke Nyakarahuka,Sarah Tegule,Eystein Skjerve +9 more
TL;DR: A high prevalence and diversity of NTS species in laying hen farms in Uganda and high levels of antimicrobial resistance in isolates of NTS are highlighted and a strong case for strengthening One Health practices is justified.
Molecular epidemiology, drug susceptibility and economic aspects of tuberculosis in Mubende district, Uganda.
Adrian Muwonge,Adrian Muwonge,Sydney Malama,Tone B Johansen,Clovice Kankya,Demelash Biffa,Willy Ssengooba,Jacques Godfroid,Berit Djønne,Eystein Skjerve +9 more
TL;DR: Investigating genotypic characteristics and drug resistance profiles of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from suspected TB patients in Uganda showed that previously treated TB, co-infection with HIV, cigarette smoking, and overcrowding were risk factors associated with TB, while high medical related transport bills were identified as an economic burden.
