Analysis on the influence of vapor capillary aspect ratio on pore formation in laser beam welding of aluminum
Marc Hummel,Christian Hagenlocher,Andrea Haeusler,Sören Hollatz,J.-E. Lind,Alexander Olowinsky,Arnold Gillner,F. Beckmann,Johannes Moosmann,R. Weber,Thomas Graf,Claudio Häfner +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper , in situ phase-contrast high-speed videography using synchrotron radiation is used for the first time to analyse the behavior of different aspect ratios of the vapor capillary (capillary depth/focal diameter) on the stability and porosity of laser welds.

Influence of ring-shaped laser beam during welding of AW-5083 and AW-6082
Sören Hollatz,Marc Hummel,M. Lach,Alexander Olowinsky,Arnold Gillner,Claudio Häfner,F. Beckmann,Julian Moosmann +7 more
- 15 Mar 2023
TL;DR: In this paper , an analysis of the keyhole and melt pool shape based on the high-speed video images of the synchrotron radiation is presented, and the results show an influence of the ring mode on the key hole depth and the melted pool shape.

FEM-Design & fabrication of a micro-milling tool by tangential laser machining
TL;DR: In this paper, a self-designed micro-cutting tool with a diameter of 0.2 mm was optimized using FEM simulations and tested in chipping copper and compared to conventional tools.

Laser manufacturing of carbide micro milling tools
Josquin Pfaff,Melik Hajri,Claudio Häfner,Konrad Wegener +3 more
- 27 Jun 2017
TL;DR: In this article, a process for manufacturing carbide micro cutting tools with defined cutting edges using an ultra-short-pulsed laser is described, which is an interesting alternative to the grinding of micro tools.
