Surgical management of acute pancreatitis in Italy: lessons from a prospective multicentre study
Paolo De Rai,Alessandro Zerbi,Laura Castoldi,Claudio Bassi,Luca Frulloni,Generoso Uomo,Armando Gabbrielli,Raffaele Pezzilli,Giorgio Cavallini,Valerio Di Carlo +9 more
TL;DR: The results indicate poor compliance with published guidelines in severe pancreatitis, in which early surgical intervention is frequently performed and enteral feeding is seldom used.

Preoperative risk stratification of postoperative pancreatic fistula: A risk-tree predictive model for pancreatoduodenectomy.
Giampaolo Perri,Giovanni Marchegiani,Stefano Partelli,Stefano Crippa,Beatrice Bianchi,Lorenzo Cinelli,Alessandro Esposito,Nicolò Pecorelli,Massimo Falconi,Claudio Bassi,Roberto Salvia +10 more
TL;DR: A regression risk-tree model for preoperative postoperative pancreatic fistula risk stratification was developed in the Verona University Hospital training cohort using preoperative variables and then tested prospectively in a validation cohort of patients who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy at San Raffaele Hospital of Milan as mentioned in this paper.

Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy: analysis of trends in surgical techniques, patient selection, and outcomes.
Giuseppe Malleo,Isacco Damoli,Giovanni Marchegiani,Alessandro Esposito,Tiziana Marchese,Roberto Salvia,Claudio Bassi,Giovanni Butturini +7 more
TL;DR: The time trend analysis showed that there was not a tendency toward broadening the indications or selecting more difficult cases in LDP, and the study of learning curve components did not show any significant variation over time.

Does the surgical waiting list affect pathological and survival outcome in resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
Giovanni Marchegiani,Stefano Andrianello,Giampaolo Perri,Erica Secchettin,Laura Maggino,Giuseppe Malleo,Claudio Bassi,Roberto Salvia +7 more
TL;DR: The duration of the surgical waiting-list did not affect pathological features and survival, but delayed surgery was associated with increased cancer size on the specimen and should not be delayed for PDACs < 20 mm as this may negatively affect the prognosis.

Surgeon experience contributes to improved outcomes in pancreatoduodenectomies at high risk for fistula development.

Jamieson,Lavanniya K.P. Velu,John W. Kunstman +55 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of individual surgeon experience on outcomes is poorly understood, and best operative approaches for clinically relevant pancreatic fistula prevention and best performer profiles were identified through multivariable analysis models.
