TL;DR: Activities and events increasing risk for meningococcal disease in adolescence are different from in childhood, however, the development of further effective meningitis vaccines remains a key public health priority.

Mannose-binding lectin accelerates complement activation and increases serum killing of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C.
TL;DR: LOS sialylation appears to be an important determinant of MBL binding to N. meningitidis and can modulate complement-dependent killing of the bacterium, which could explain the observed susceptibility to meningococcal disease of individuals genetically deficient in MBL.

Glutamine decreases inflammation in infant rat endotoxemia
TL;DR: Glutamine administration partially prevents the sepsis-induced fall in plasma glutamine levels and reduces the concentration of both proinflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines.

Part of beneficial host response
TL;DR: In this article, the value of a raised temperature to combat flu was discussed, and it was shown that fever may also be necessary for optimal defence against bacterial infections against meningococcal disease.
