The concept of manufacturing grid (MGrid) is to utilize manufacturing resources distributed in heterogeneous systems and different places to collaboratively manufacture products the market requires. The solution is based on adopting grid technologies, information technologies, advanced manufacturing technologies, management technologies, etc., to realize the complete sharing of all kinds of geographically distributed and heterogeneous manufacturing resources in the form of virtual enterprises. After summarizing the grid technology and its applications, we propose the concept of MGrid. The application of grid technology in manufacturing and the related works about MGrid are investigated. The connotation of MGrid are put forward, including its basic features, the structure and main functions, the main research contents, the architecture, and key technologies. A resource service optimal-selection system of MGrid and its main functions are researched, including resource service description, resource service publication, resource service discovery, resource service quality of service (QoS) evaluation, and resource service optimal-selection evaluation. An application prototype, namely magnetic bearing resources sharing and service platform under manufacturing grid, is developed. It validates the resource service sharing and optimal-selection system in MGrid.

Grid technology is a new sustentation for the sharing of global manufacturing resources To promote the application of grid technologies in the manufacturing industry, a framework for a manufacturing grid (MG) has been expatiated The framework is composed of a network infrastructure layer, a manufacturing resource aggregation layer, a manufacturing resource management layer, a manufacturing service application layer and a MG portal layer Modelling manufacturing resources, one key technology of implementing the MG application system, has been studied intensively A manufacturing resource hierarchy model (MRHM), which consists of a manufacturing resource layer, a resource expressing layer and a resource interface layer, is proposed In the model, various manufacturing resources are aggregated into a resource layer; all resource information is encapsulated in an information expressing layer employing XML (extensible markup language) schema; all accessing operations to resources are defined in the resource interface layer using WSDL (web service description language) Lastly, being the validation of MRHM, a standard part library system based on Unigraphics180 and SQL Server2000 is encapsulated as a resource node in the MG The node provides online services like querying information for standard parts, viewing and downloading geometry models of standard parts, and so on

An implementation of modelling resource in a manufacturing grid for resource sharing

The work presented in this paper demonstrates how flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) combined with context awareness can be used to allow for an improved decision support in manufacturing industry. Thereby manufacturing companies shall be supported in a continuous process of increasing efficiency and availability of their production machines. Such optimization has to be embedded in the processes allowing for run time adaptation of the process to various dynamically changing external conditions. Context awareness, based on the information obtained from cyber physical systems, is a promising approach to allow for efficient building of such embedded optimization solutions. The objective of the research presented is to explore how context awareness, using the information from cyber physical systems integrated in the processes, can be applied to build a solution for self-optimization of discrete, flexible manufacturing processes.

Context Awareness for Flexible Manufacturing Systems Using Cyber Physical Approaches

We discussed a two stage revenue coordination problem based on inventory information sharing in this paper. The buyer is in the leader position, while the supplier acts as the follower. We adopted a leader-follower game method in our research. The model analysis shows that information sharing can lead to the loss of the supplier and the inventory cost saving of the buyer. Results from the model show that there are two ratios have a great influence on the cost savings of the buyer, the supplier and the whole system. The two ratios are the ratio of the order cost of the supplier to the buyer and the ratio of the carrying charges of the supplier to the buyer. Finally, a compensation policy is given to compensate the loss of the supplier.
