Oxygen‐regulated Ni‐based single‐atom catalysts (SACs) show great potential in accelerating the kinetics of electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). However, it remains a challenge to precisely control the coordination environment of NiO moieties and achieve high activity at high overpotentials. Herein, a facile carbonization coupled oxidation strategy is developed to mass produce NiO clusters‐decorated NiNC SACs that exhibit a high Faradaic efficiency of CO (maximum of 96.5%) over a wide potential range (−0.9 to −1.3 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode) and a high turnover frequency for CO production of 10 120 h−1 even at the high overpotential of 1.19 V. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the highly dispersed NiO clusters induce electron delocalization of active sites and reduce the energy barriers for *COOH intermediates formation from CO2, leading to an enhanced reaction kinetics for CO production. This study opens a new universal pathway for the construction of oxygen‐regulated metal‐based SACs for various catalytic applications.

State-of-the-art single-atom catalysts in electrocatalysis: From fundamentals to applications

Based on industrial silicon and carbon black as starting materials,β-SiC bonded SiC materials were prepared. The microstructure of such material and the silicon/carbon reaction were analyzed and investigated by XRD, SEM and other tools. The results indicate that the synthesis of β-SiC at 1400°C can be achieved through gas-phase mass transfer, liquid dissolution as well as in-situ reaction. While gas-phase mass transfer is the dominant reaction during the sintering of the material, in which β-SiC exists mainly as nanowhisker. The formation of β-SiC nanowires is believed to be the mechanism of reaction sintering.

Mechanism of Silicon/Carbon Reaction for β-SiC Bonded SiC Materials

Developing highly active, low-cost, and robust transition metal-based phosphide for alkaline overall water splitting is of utmost important to promote the practical application from fundamental. Herein, two-dimensional (2D) Mo-doped NiCoP nanoplates with novel amorphous/crystalline heterostructure (Mo(0.05)-NiCoP) in situ grown on three-dimensional nickel foam (NF) has been successfully constructed through hydrothermal reaction followed by the phosphorization treatment. Benefited from the synergy of amorphous/crystalline heterointerface, Mo doping, and unique 2D structure, the optimized Mo(0.05)-NiCoP exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), achieving low overpotential of 67 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for HER and 233 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for OER. Meanwhile, there are only a cell voltage of 1.569 V was required to drive 10 mA cm−2 when Mo(0.05)-NiCoP used as both anode and cathode for overall water splitting. Thus, this study provides a novel approach to construct efficient 2D bifunctional catalysts with amorphous/crystalline heterostructure and heterogeneous metal doping.
