Unfractionated heparin versus bivalirudin in primary percutaneous coronary intervention (HEAT-PPCI): an open-label, single centre, randomised controlled trial
Adeel Shahzad,Ian Kemp,Christine Mars,Keith S. Wilson,Claire Roome,Robert Cooper,Mohammed Andron,Clare Appleby,Michael Fisher,Aleem Khand,Babu Kunadian,Joseph D. Mills,John L. Morris,William Morrison,Shahzad Munir,Nicholas D. Palmer,Raphael A. Perry,David R. Ramsdale,Periaswamy Velavan,Rod Stables +19 more
TL;DR: Compared with bivalirudin, heparin reduces the incidence of major adverse ischaemic events in the setting of PPCI, with no increase in bleeding complications.
537
A randomised controlled trial to compare two coronary pressure wires using simultaneous measurements in human coronary arteries: the COMET trial.
TL;DR: No significant difference was found between the new COMET wire from Boston Scientific and the established technology from St. Jude/Abbott Vascular in terms of safety and performance.
12
A comparison of hospital episode statistics and traditional methods to identify outcomes in a randomized trial; a sub-study of HEAT-PPCI.
Sarah R Blake,Claire Roome,Adeel Shahzad,Ian Kemp,Christine Mars,Keith S. Wilson,Rod Stables +6 more
TL;DR: HES is effective in the ascertainment of readmission and is a useful tool in follow-up, with limitations in both sensitivity and specificity.

Comparison of the effects of P2Y12 receptor antagonists on platelet function and clinical outcomes in patients undergoing Primary PCI: A substudy of the HEAT-PPCI trial.
Adeel Shahzad,Vikram Khanna,Ian Kemp,Matthew Shaw,Christine Mars,Robert Cooper,Keith S. Wilson,Nick Curzen,Rod Stables +8 more
TL;DR: Patients who received prasugrel (rather than clopidogrel or ticagrelor) had significantly greater suppression of ADP-induced platelet aggregation at the end of the procedure and after adjustment for differences in baseline characteristics, there were no significant differences in ischaemic or bleeding outcomes among the antiplatelet therapies.
4
Comparison of the antiplatelet and antithrombotic effects of bivalirudin versus unfractionated heparin: A platelet substudy of the HEAT PPCI trial
Vikram Khanna,Vikram Khanna,Adeel Shahzad,Kala Thayalasamy,Ian Kemp,Christine Mars,Rob Cooper,Claire Roome,Keith Wilson,Scott Harris,Rod Stables,Nick Curzen +11 more
TL;DR: Comparing the antiplatelet and antithrombotic effects of bivalirudin and UFH using short thrombelastography (s-TEG), an ex vivo whole blood platelet function assay found no significant differences.
