Modeling crowdsourcing platforms to enable workforce dimensioning
Christian Schwartz,Kathrin Borchert,Matthias Hirth,Phuoc Tran-Gia +3 more
- 18 Nov 2015
TL;DR: This work develops a model for common crowdsourcing platforms and implements the model using a simulative approach, which is validated with a comparison to an analytic M[X]/M/c - ∞ system.

Effectiveness of link cost optimization for IP rerouting and IP fast reroute
David Hock,Matthias Hartmann,Christian Schwartz,Michael Menth +3 more
- 15 Mar 2010
TL;DR: This paper reviews major parts of previous publications and presents a new method to visualize and compare the resilience of different routing schemes and compares conventional IP rerouting with IP fast reroute and shows that IP-FRR can also significantly profit from routing optimization.
Increasing the Coverage of Vantage Points in Distributed Active Network Measurements by Crowdsourcing
Valentin Burger,Matthias Hirth,Christian Schwartz,Tobias Hoβfeld,Phuoc Tran-Gia +4 more
- 17 Mar 2014
TL;DR: This study compares measurements of a global CDN conducted in PlanetLab with measurements assigned to workers of a crowdsourcing platform and obtains a diverse set of vantage points that reveals more than twice as many autonomous systems deploying video servers.

Performance Modeling of Softwarized Network Functions Using Discrete-Time Analysis.
Steffen Gebert,Thomas Zinner,Stanislav Lange,Christian Schwartz,Phuoc Tran-Gia +4 more
- 01 Jan 2016
TL;DR: In this article, an analytical model that allows computing relevant performance metrics like the packet processing time and the packet loss for generic virtualized network functions running on commodity hardware is developed, and the applicability of the model is shown by comparing its outcome with measurements conducted in a local testbed featuring a VNF that acts as an LTE Serving Gateway.

On The Systematic Development and Evaluation Of Password Security Awareness-Raising Materials
Peter Mayer,Christian Schwartz,Melanie Volkamer +2 more
- 03 Dec 2018
TL;DR: A password security awareness-raising material based on the literature on password security, feedback of independent experts, and feedback of lay-users was evaluated in the field and improved abilities of the participants were still present in a retention after six months.
