Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing firewall functionalities, and, more particularly, to methods, systems, and apparatuses for implementing high availability (“HA”) web application firewall (“WAF”) functionalities. In various embodiments, a first computing system might monitor network communications between a client and a server providing access to software applications, and might determine whether latency has been introduced as a result of at least one first WAF container having been launched and whether any introduced latency exceeds a predetermined threshold, each first WAF container being tuned to a corresponding software application and protecting the software application from network attacks. Based on a determination that latency has been introduced and based on a determination that the introduced latency exceeds the predetermined threshold, one or more second WAF containers may be launched, each being tuned to the corresponding software application. Subsequently, any unused or underutilized WAF containers may be decommissioned or deleted.

Memory bandwidth allocations for a plurality of tenants on a processor socket may be managed by determining a total memory bandwidth for the processor socket, determining a respective share of the total memory bandwidth for each tenant, and determining a respective dynamic memory bandwidth budget for the each tenant. The memory bandwidth allocations may be controlled based on the determined respective dynamic memory bandwidth budgets, wherein the each respective dynamic memory bandwidth budget supports utilizing the each respective share and supports sharing unused memory bandwidth of the each respective tenant with a different tenant included in the plurality of tenants.

Technologies are described herein for managing the activation of software containers, for throttling of requests directed to tenants executing in a software container, and for priming the execution of software containers. The activation of software containers and tenants may be managed by maintaining an activation queue for storing requests to activate software containers or tenants on a host computer. Requests may be retrieved from the queue and utilized to determine whether a software container or a tenant is to be activated on a host. “Bounce” or hot swap tenant activations may be performed. Tenant activation requests might also be throttled by denying the requests or by postponing the requests until a later time. A software container might also be configured to throttle incoming requests to tenants executing therein. The execution of a software container might also be primed by replaying previously recorded network traffic to the software container.
