Influence of the glucose concentration on the yield of biomass and lipopolysaccharide in Salmonella cultures.
Siegfried Schlecht,Chris Galanos +1 more
TL;DR: The present results demonstrate that optimisation of the cultivation conditions with respect to the glucose concentration of the medium would be of advantage especially for Salmonella strains that are cultivated frequently.

Function and "homing" of the lung macrophages - I. Evidence of functional heterogeneity of mobile cells of the murine lung parenchyma in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)
Nikolaus Freudenberg,K. Konarske,Urs Riede,R. Lamers,S. Zeller,G. Hämmerling,C. Sorg,H. U. Usener,T. Katschinski,Chris Galanos,Marina A. Freudenberg +10 more
TL;DR: The principal finding was that BAL cells are functionally heterogeneous, which shows that the lung, as indicated by BAL cells, has at its disposal a highly developed mobile cellular defence mechanism, of which the numerically dominant component is the macrophage population.

TNF revisited: TNF‐independent antitumor activity in sera of mice sensitized with Propionibacterium acnes and challenged with lipopolysaccharide
TL;DR: The induction of a previously unrecognized antitumor activity in sera of mice sensitized with bacteria and subsequently challenged with lipopolysaccharide is described, which is distinct from TNF but displays tumor‐specific cytocidal activity in vitro as well as potent tumor‐regressing activity in vivo.
