Quantitation and biological activities of native tumour necrosis factor from LPS-stimulated human monocytes.
TL;DR: Biologically active nTNF was determined by its cytotoxic activity for actinomycin‐D treated mouse fibroblasts and by its lethal effect in D‐galactosamine sensitized endotoxin‐resistant mice.

Culture and biological activity of Propionibacterium acnes.
TL;DR: The results show that stationary cultures of P. acnes grown at 37°C for 4 to 5 days in the appropriate medium produce biologically active preparations with satisfactory sensitizing activity, and the composition of the medium, the culturing time and temperature are varied.

Serum anti-lipid A antibodies in multiple myeloma and Waldenström's macroglobulinaemia.
P.C. Fink,Chris Galanos +1 more
TL;DR: Low anti-lipid A antibody levels correlated with a higher infection rate with gram-negative bacteria in patients with monoclonal B-cell malignancies and the highest infection rate was seen in Patients with simultaneous low anti- Lipid A levels and secondary antibody deficiency.

Distribution and antigenic properties of the O-determinants of Salmonella zuerich (1, 9, 27 46).
TL;DR: The S. zuerich O-polysaccharide chains are heterogeneous, and contain simultaneously factors 27, 46, and often also 1.

Endotoxic properties of chemically synthesized lipid A analogs. Studies on six inflammatory reactions in vivo, and one reaction in vitro.
Masao Yoshida,Michimasa Hirata,Katsuya Inada,Nobuko Tsunoda,Teruo Kirikae,Tsuyoshi Onodera,Yoshihito Ishikawa,Osamu Sasaki,Tetsuo Shiba,Shoichi Kusumoto,Chris Galanos,Otto Lüderitz,Seiichi Kondo,Kazuhito Hisatsune +13 more
TL;DR: It seems that these two marrow reactions and hemagglutination require, as does the limulus test, the lipid A part structure as is present inounds 406 and 506.
