Arsenic induces pancreatic β-cell apoptosis via the oxidative stress-regulated mitochondria-dependent and endoplasmic reticulum stress-triggered signaling pathways.
Tien-Hui Lu,Chin-Chuan Su,Ya-Wen Chen,Ching-Yao Yang,Chin-Ching Wu,Dong-Zong Hung,Chun-Hung Chen,Po-Wen Cheng,Shing-Hwa Liu,Chun-Fa Huang +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that exposure of mice to arsenic in drinking water for 6 consecutive weeks significantly decreased decreased the plasma insulin, elevated glucose intolerance and plasma lipid peroxidation, and induced islet cells apoptosis, which accompanied with arsenic accumulation in the whole blood and pancreas.

Arsenic induces reactive oxygen species-caused neuronal cell apoptosis through JNK/ERK-mediated mitochondria-dependent and GRP 78/CHOP-regulated pathways
Tien-Hui Lu,To-Jung Tseng,Chin-Chuan Su,Feng-Cheng Tang,Cheng-Chieh Yen,Yu-Yun Liu,Ching-Yao Yang,Chin-Ching Wu,Kuo-Liang Chen,Dong-Zong Hung,Ya-Wen Chen +10 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that iAs induces ROS causing neuronal cell death via both JNK/ERK-mediated mitochondria-dependent and GRP 78/CHOP-triggered apoptosis pathways.

Arsenic Exposure and Glucose Intolerance/Insulin Resistance in Estrogen-Deficient Female Mice
Chun-Fa Huang,Ching-Yao Yang,Ding-Cheng Chan,Ching-Chia Wang,Kuo-How Huang,Chin-Ching Wu,Keh-Sung Tsai,Rong-Sen Yang,Shing-Hwa Liu +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that estrogen deficiency plays an important role in arsenic-altered glucose metabolism/homeostasis in females and arsenic exposure and glucose intolerance/insulin resistance in estrogen-deficient female mice is investigated.

Methylmercury exposure induces ROS/Akt inactivation-triggered endoplasmic reticulum stress-regulated neuronal cell apoptosis
Yao-Pang Chung,Cheng-Chieh Yen,Feng-Cheng Tang,Kuan-I Lee,Shing-Hwa Liu,Chin-Ching Wu,Shang-Shu Hsieh,Chin-Chuan Su,Chun-Ying Kuo,Ya-Wen Chen +9 more
TL;DR: Pretreatment with the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) effectively prevented MeHg-induced neuronal cell reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, apoptotic and ER stress-related signals, and Akt inactivation.

Ultrafine silicon dioxide nanoparticles cause lung epithelial cells apoptosis via oxidative stress-activated PI3K/Akt-mediated mitochondria- and endoplasmic reticulum stress-dependent signaling pathways.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated for the first time that SiO 2 NPs induced L2 cell apoptosis through ROS-regulated PI3K/AKT signaling and its downstream mitochondria- and ER stress-dependent signaling pathways.
