Understanding business-level innovation technology adoption

While the technology acceptance model (TAM) is generally robust it does not always adequately explain user behavior. Recent studies argue that including individual characteristics in TAM can improve our understanding of those conditions under which TAM is not adequate for explaining acceptance behavior. Using this argument, we examine the effects of positive mood, one individual characteristic that significantly affects an individual's cognition and behavior, on acceptance of a DSS that supports uncertain tasks. Our results show that positive mood has a significant influence on DSS acceptance and that its influence on users' behavior is not due to a halo effect.

Exploring the impact of trust and relational embeddedness in e-marketplaces: An empirical study in Taiwan

– The purpose of this paper is to explore and expound the factors that impinge on the adoption and usage of industrial e‐markets., – A review of the literature on e‐market adoption was followed by in‐depth interviews with senior managers in buyer, supplier, and e‐market organisations. Senior level executives (15) reported barriers and challenges to the adoption and usage of e‐markets operating in the aerospace and defence and higher education sectors. The interview data is transcribed, coded and analysed using the qualitative data analysis programme QSR N6., – The paper found a number of barriers and challenges related risk perception, knowledge deficits, trust, firm size, and organisational readiness that moderate the adoption and usage of e‐markets in the sectors., – There is unequal representation of buyer and supplier organisations between the two e‐market sectors. However, the case material enabled the research question to be answered and did not compromise the aims of the research., – The case material presented in the paper can help academic researchers, managers, practitioners and other professionals better understand the barriers that impinge on e‐market adoption and find practical ways to mitigate those barriers., – Recently, research on the barriers and challenges to e‐markets has been largely anecdotal and patchy with a paucity of studies noting factors that are likely to be conducive to e‐markets success. This study departs from such studies by offering empirical evidence of the factors in moderating the uptake of e‐markets.

Barriers to innovation adoption: a study of e‐markets

Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) constitute a large and important sector of the U.S. and U.K. economies and e-commerce platforms have evolved that are designed specifically to help small business owners and entrepreneurs. Despite the popularity and importance of these digital platforms, there is a paucity of research in this area. This article contributes to theory by being the first study to map out the competitive landscape of SME e-commerce platforms in two markets using a theoretical framework and analysis that is based on business model and strategic group theories. In total, 144 platforms were analyzed using an online panel data methodology, which identified 32 leading SME e-commerce platforms in the UK and United States.
