The present invention relates to a novel method for producing astaxanthin by using microalgae. The method comprises: heterotrophic cultivation of microalgae, dilution, photo-induction, collection of microalgal cells, and extraction of astaxanthin. The method according to the present invention takes full advantages of rapid growth rate in the heterotrophic stage and fast accumulation of astaxanthin in the photo-induction stage by using a large amount of microalgal cells obtained in the heterotrophic cultivation stage, so as to greatly improve the astaxanthin production rate and thereby achieve low cost, high efficiency, large scale production of astaxanthin by using microalgae. The method not only provides an important technical means to address the large scale industrial production of astaxanthin through microalgae but also ensures an ample source of raw material for the widespread utilization of astaxanthin.

In the novel method, the advantages that microalgae rapidly grows in the heterotrophic culture stage, a large amount of algae cells are obtained in the heterotrophic culture, and a great amount of astaxanthin is accumulated in the photo-induction stage are fully exerted; thus the efficiency of astaxanthin production by utilizing microalgae can be greatly improved; low-cost, high-efficient, and mass production of astaxanthin by culturing microalgae is achieved, and the novel method provides an important technical means for massive and industrial production of astaxanthin originated from microalgae.

Methods of inducing or increasing lipid and protein production in microalgae are disclosed. Methods of enhancing microalgae biomass are also disclosed. The methods may comprise inoculating a culture media with microalgae and propagating the microalgae under heterotrophic growth conditions. The heterotrophic growth conditions may comprise inhibiting exposure of the inoculated culture media to light. The methods may further comprise delivering oxygen into the inoculated culture media. Additionally, lipids, proteins, and other cellular components may be isolated and purified from microalgae cultivated under the disclosed methods.

The invention relates to a microalgae cultivation method and a grease production method. The cultivation method comprises the following steps: a nitrogen fertilizer is provided for microalgae for many times; at least for one time, the nitrogen fertilizer is added when the nitrogen fertilizer in a microalgae suspension is consumed by microalgae until the microalgae is in a nitrogen-deficiency simulation state; and the cultivation time lasts for more than 10 days. By the cultivation method, normal growth of microalgae can be guaranteed, and the microalgae can accumulate much grease.

Compared with the prior art, the method provided by the invention has the following advantages: high efficiency enrichment of microalgae cells and accumulation of high-content lipid of the microalgae cells are realized, a utilization rate of CO2 is increased, O2 desorption capability is enhanced, culture apparatuses are reduced, etc.

The invention relates to a high-yield microalgae cultivating method. The method comprises a step of carrying out heterotrophic cultivation on microalgae algae species and a step of carrying out photoautotrophic cultivation by using algae cells obtained by heterotrophic cultivation as seeds. For the microalgae capable of growing heterotrophically, due to the adoption of the method, the advantage that the algae cells grow rapidly in the heterotrophic phase of the microalgae can be sufficiently played, not only a great amount of algae species can be provided in time for large scale photoautotrophic cultivation of the microalgae, but also the photoautotrophic growth of the microalgae and a forming rate of target products (such as oil, proteins and the like) can be quickened. An important technical means is provided for solving the problems of long algae specie spreading cultivation period, low cell growing speed and low yield of the target products in the large scale photoautotrophic cultivation process of the microalgae.
