Down-regulation of a SILENT INFORMATION REGULATOR2-related histone deacetylase gene, OsSRT1, induces DNA fragmentation and cell death in rice.
TL;DR: The role of OsSRT1, one of the two SIR2-related genes found in rice (Oryza sativa), was investigated in this article, where RNA interference induced an increase of histone H3K9 (lysine-9 of H3) acetylation, leading to H2O2 production, DNA fragmentation, cell death, and lesions mimicking plant hypersensitive responses during incompatible interactions with pathogens.

TL;DR: The data together suggest that the rice SIR2-like gene is required for safeguard against genome instability and cell damage to ensure plant cell growth, but likely implicates different molecular mechanisms than yeast and animal homologs.

Altered Levels of Histone Deacetylase OsHDT1 Affect Differential Gene Expression Patterns in Hybrid Rice
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that nonadditive gene expression was involved in flowering time control in the hybrid rice and that OsHDT1 level was important for non additive or differential expression of many genes including the flowering time genes, suggesting that Os HDT1 may be involved in epigenetic control of parental genome interaction for differential gene expression.

- 05 Sep 2012
TL;DR: In this paper, a histone deacetylases gene OsHDT1 for improving the rice heterosis utilization capacity is obtained by separating and cloning, and the gene is one of the following nucleotide sequences: 1) DNA sequence shown at the first to the 894th bits in a sequence table SEQ NO:1; or 2) DNA sequences of the protein with the encoding being the same as the protein encoded in sequence 1).

Use of a Histone Deacetylase Gene OsHDT1 in Enhancing Rice Heterosis
Dao-Xiu Zhou,Chen Li,Limin Huang +2 more
- 29 Apr 2010
TL;DR: A histone deacetylase gene OsHDT1 which enhances utilization of heterosis in rice is isolated and cloned, said gene consisting of: 1) the DNA sequence of positions 1-894 in SEQ ID NO:1 in the Sequence listing; or 2) a DNA sequence which encodes the same protein as that encoded by the sequence of 1.
